How Many Cells for Tiger Moth Motor?

I just bought a TM as well as two packs of 6 cell 280mah NiMh. Are 6 cells enough? Can I go with 8 cells? Thanks for any replies.

Usually 6 cell Nicads or 7 cell NiMH packs will give you the best performance. If you don't mind risking the motor, one cell more for each works okay too.

I'd recommend the 7 cell 300mah NiMH as the best compromise. You can get them at:

The first two require slight trimming of the foam, the third costs more.

I have to agree with BC on this one!

I fly both my GWS Cub and Moth on the same 7 cell, 300 mAH, NiMH packs that I bought from Dave at Radical RC.

I think the price would be, $15 per pack, plus $2 per pack for the BEC connectors (fit GWS), plus $2 shipping. So, $19 shipped for one pack or $36 for two.

But get in touch with him to verify!

I use 7&8 cell NI-MH all the time I guess it is up to you. I know that I will shorten the life of my motors but I do love the 8 cell battery. But the 7 cell 8.4 is a good trade off. The best part is I have been using them for over a year and have not lost one motor yet. But then I have spares it's when you don't have a spare that you burn out a motor. Or so it seems
