All you westsiders bragging about going flying this morning made me a bit jealous. So, I got up the nerve to brave the cold and flew for a while in my front yard. What a gorgeous day! I didn't last very long at 34 F. But, it was worth it! Here are a few pictures.

Sure looking forward to some warmer flying later this year.

Heated coat. That is the secret.

I need a heated coat that's so hot it creates lift overhead. Was a wild morning at Carnation...too thick to really throw through, and your plane disappeared about 200' up, but there was soft lift everywhere. Oh, and the chorus of geese. Little bit surreal. Wish I could have stayed longer to fly with you guys!

Fog finally broke about 1:00, beautiful afternoon. 8 or 9 of us out flying, awesome way to spend a January afternoon!

That snowy field looks like a ton of fun too Ben. Forecast looks even better tomorrow...I’m going back for seconds.

Early AM to Noon-ist

Now that was some AMAZING fog!

Two maiden flights on an ultralight BAMF ... 8 minutes 38 seconds and 13 minutes 26 seconds!

Weird thing was, it was completely 'FOGGED-IN' on all flights. The amazing part was you could only fly so high and then you had to work at keeping the plane LOW as to not lose sight of the plane. Trust me ... the planes were disappearing up in the air.

You would be circling and circling, almost expecting to fly up into the blue sky beyond and have visibility suddenly appear. NOPE! Get that plane lower into a visible range. So, circle a bit faster, come down lower, and move the plane in closer so you would not lose sight of it ...AND well, the lift just stayed and the plane would climb again, and again, and again. Soft but solid lift, in the Fog!! Strangest thing 'I've' ever flown in. Very COOL!

Now I get that the SASS crowd out flying today are going to say... see what happens when you fly a BAMF! True ... ALL the planes in the air today (about 7-10 of them, even more later I understand) were BAMF's. ALL of them were doing this awesome stunt!! I'm not sure how many times Paul lost sight of his plane??

Was it Amazing air??? Was it BAMF's fly that good??

OR

Could it be ... the amazing Dave Banks plane setup? (How many licks does take to get to the center of a Tootsie-Pop?)

I had a 'great' time flying. Sorry, I had to leave at 12:36 before the real blue sky showed up. One of the best times I've had flying EVER!! Very Very Excellent time.

-Conrad

PS: Thanks, Thomas for the build. I needed something to compete in the zero lift conditions that sometimes exist in the Northwest. Thanks, Banks for the programming and plane setup!! (Barry ... I appreciate you leaving so much mysterious lift for us. Sorry I missed you early- early AM. Thomas was a very frozen boy when the rest of us showed up about 10:30 - 11:00ish.

PPS: It was something to start the morning DLG'ing in Seattle and finish the day (where I am writing this tonight) in Phoenix. Caught an airline flight to Phoenix a few hours after leaving Carnation. Amazing times we live in.

PPPS: Where the heck was Webb?

PPPPS: Rumor has it, Rollo 'might' be in town (Seattle) Jan 30-31st ... Hmmmmm

I was mostly working otherwise nothing would have kept me away yea we had a platform go live event where we cut over 10k users to a new platform I just finish building with my team. The project was nearly 2 years in the making soo...I was at my local field by 3 PM doing a maiden flight of the Ultima 2.

Today is supposed to be sunny again so im going out to trim up more of the Vortex 3's and do some higher launches on the Ultima 2 -

PNW thick wet air - pretty crazy hey ? Ive seen this a few times. Especially spring when we have had some rounds in super light drizzle - you expect the model to come down fast but there appears to be some fair consistent differential happening in these cool mornings. Fun stuff.

So glad you got and shared that Conrad. Was like that all morning: launch to maybe 150-160' (with much more effort than that should take), find lift pretty much everywhere, and have to come down after six or ten turns or else lose your plane. It was like meteorology designed (and enforced) my ideal F3K task. A 200' contest ceiling. AND the lift to exploit it!

With it as lousy with BAMFs up here as it is, I want to put word out that I'm in the hunt for a thrashed wing. If you break something so bad that you don't wanna fix it, gimme a call. I want a beater bird.

RJ was helping Paul with his QT practice and I read this which kind of reminded what it looked like.

"Hedgehog spin-vortex crystal antiferromagnetic state without nematic transitions".

Yup that pretty much sums it up

Lol...these small anactotal notes should be kept some place so we can write a book..."f3k coaching for dummies"

Sounds like progress.

Impressive to watch hedge do his thing. Rick was kind of annoying yelling numbers repeatedly.
