Very few people seem to use 700AR's here?

WHy is that they are plentiful and seem a much more robust option that the 600AE

Andrew, whats the weight difference?
that could be the answer, the old energy density trick.

700AR has never bean readily available in the US. All of the AR cells 500, 700, 800 are now discontinued by Sanyo.

I plan to.. I bought out the last supply of a well known UK vendor.. I can't wait to try them in my Twister, and especially the Sokol (when it's ready to fly - have a 6T 020 for that)..
Before that, however, I had never seen them for sale over here. I'm sure you could find them..

I really like 700ARs for my 020 powered planes. I'm also experimenting with them for Speed 400 applications. 7 X 700AR is heavier than 8 X 500AR, but they're much better cells than the current crop of 500ARs.

As others commented, they're pretty hard to come by in the US; you have to be creative.

My flying buddy Kev MUllarkey- who is a lurker her - Hiya Kev - has found these to be an excellent cell for Graupner 480 Race direct drive on a 5x5" Graupner Cam Speed prop in his Baby Birdie.

I had a 8-cell 700AR pack that I used in almost all my s400 stuff. I loved it. It was the only pack I used in my Zagi or Mirage2000. For a little weight gain, you get more power and more run time.

Sadly, my pack was lost when my Zagi folded it's wings. Loosing the battery pack was more depressing than crashing the plane (and losing the ESC & Motor).

Since this has come up, I'd love to get some more 700ARs. Anyone know where I could find some more?

From a quick web search:
600AE: 18 gm.
700AR: 28 gm.
800AR: 34 gm.

I guess the weight penalty is fine if you need >12 A out of your pack.

Andy,
I had a Twister set up with a 6T 02 on a 6 cell pack of 700's. I used a 4.7 prop (5x5 pulled too many amps). Great setup. Good power and speed, decent duration, and not too heavy.

Good luck,
Lenny

I just helped a friend get a bunch of these, from Andrew. Great cells. Also, great price and service, to Ohio, all the way from the land down under. Last 700AR's I used gave alot more oomph than any AE's, and even good 500AR's, and they usually gave about 735 mah. These are perfect for the little B20 Hackers that are all the rage these days.

Andy,

I just bought a twister, did you try a speed 400 with 8x600AE?

Also Tower has sanyo 700's on sale if you buy in quantity.

are these the cells you are refering to? If so, I may have to try them.

The ones you posted about are not 700AR's, but simple consumer rechargeable AA cells. I have flown my Twister with a 6v speed 400 and 6x3 folder prop with 8 600AE's. flies good, may be a good idea to go this route before you go with a more powerful motor like the 020. My setup is very similar to Lenny's 020 6turn pylon except I use heavier 800AR's. Also tried 6 and 7 cell packs of 600AE's with mixed results.

TP, yes, but the 020 is much better.
As already stated, be careful, those tower cells are not 700AR's, and not suitable for e-flight (except, perhaps, as a receiver pack, but there's better solutions for that).
