Long EZ

As I have been playing with canards (sort of) I got to thinking maybe I would build a canard .. so had a look and can only find one scratch build of the "Long EZ" and thats form FT

So here goes with my version of the Long EZ .. I will be using HK foam for most of the build .. I will use 6mm Depron (real Depron) for the formers, ribs, ailerons, canards and wing tips

As most of you know if you have used HK foam, its 5mm thick and a little on the soft side .. but fine for wrap over wings and fuselage covering .. I prefer to do the other parts with 6mm Depron

Should be a fairly quick and easy build .. all slots are made for 5mm, so it would be OK to use MPF as I believe its a tad over 5mm thick.

Lockey , from much canard experience , I’d suggest for your model , enlarging the Canard a bit to work better in our “scale air” … The canard is the thing that makes the flying qualities unique , and the bigger surface only helps make it better … and more stable . Just a suggestion …

Scale canards that “look right” usually are pretty innefective on our models … Just saying ...

Thanks for your input gpw, always welcome ..

Do you think I have added enough ? I added about 6 mm to the canard chord and about 10mm to the wing chord

I am showing the plan view, does it look about right ?

The flying will be the proof … Technically the canard will stall before the main wing , dropping the nose and gaining airspeed , preventing the main wing from ever stalling , which means it will do a nose bobble type of stall and you can do crazy things like drop the plane almost straight down in a stall … or do some incredibly flat spins … with no rudder … The smaller the canard the less effective this becomes as you have to compensate by moving the CG rearward for the smaller canard … It’s a matter of experimentation … and did I mention the canard likes 3-5 degrees of positive incidence … that’s important …

Looking great Lockey. Bit of extra cord never did any harm
What sort of wing span you thinking?
Is there any chance the fuse could have a rolled top and a flat bottom?
I don't think I have see a Long easy with an edf on the back...... hehe

I guess I could do a rolled BACK at the top Duke, ther real one was quite square at the front (sanded round edges) .. EDF Long EZ .. now that sounds like fun

Thanks for the video gpw, how do you get her into a flat spin ? Yes mate already put 3° on the canard.. thanks .. how about an estimate for the CG

as I don't know your plane's dimensions, suggest using this link:
