2019 Warm and Sunny F5J and F3J in FL (Updated 04-03-2019)

Attention all soaring pilots

2019 Warm and Sunny F5J and F3J in FL

We're on!

Dates:

F5J - Saturday and Sunday, March 2nd & 3rd.
F3J - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 8th, 9th, & 10th

Fees:

F5J: $45
F3J: $85, $45 if it is your first F3J contest, and $25 for Juniors.

Registrations are now open at http://f3xevents.com

Venue: St. Augustine RC Flyers

Okay everyone! We've talked among all the parties and have come up with a dual weekend of soaring fun. For the 2019 edition of Warm and Sunny in FL the St. Augustine RC Flyers have graciously offered their wonderful home field in beautiful St. Augustine, FL for us use! The club was extremely welcoming last year so we're happy they're having us back.

The first weekend of March will be the first F5J event to be held in Florida. We will have the field open for practice Friday afternoon. Saturday and Sunday will be contest days. At the moment this event is not on the USA F5J Tour however we will be following those rules (http://www.f5j-usa.com/event-rules-and-processes/). ALES CAMs will not be permitted. I am in the process of trying to make this a tour event and will post an update when I have one. A poll among the pilots on Saturday's pilots meeting will determine if we are to hold fly-offs (within the guidelines of the F5J Tour rules).

Thursday the 7th of March we will have the field open for practice for F3J. Friday morning will be field setup with the first round taking place after an early lunch. This event will be a F3J Tour event and all rules and guidelines will apply. A poll at Friday's pilot meeting will determine if fly-offs will be held. The contest will conclude on Sunday at 2:30. The plan is for 4-man teams.

A dinner is planned for Saturday the 9th. If enough people respond we will organize one for the evening of the 2nd as well.

Sign-ups for both events will soon be on http://f3xevents.com. Please keep your eye on this thread, specifically this post as I will be sure to update it.

We really hope you can come down and enjoy one or both of these weekends. We're doing our best to make sure we have some great competition come and it will be fun for all!

UPDATE #1 (09-01-2019)

AMA sanction has cleared for the F5J event and it is now added to the USA F5J Tour event calendar! The sanction for the 3J event will be submitted soon. Both registrations will be on http://f3xevents.com ASAP. Please be sure to check over the next few days as we're working as quickly as we can to get those up there. Thanks!

UPDATE #2 (16-01-2019)

Registrations are now open at http://f3xevents.com.

F5J: $45
F3J: $85, $45 if it is your first F3J contest, and $25 for Juniors.

AMA sanction has been submitted for the F3J event.

UPDATE #3 (17-01-2019)

The St. Augustine Flyers, the sponsoring club, will be doing a lunch run to Subway during each day of the competition. These guys have this down to a science and it has worked well for our local contests. It will be $5 for a 6" and $8 for a 12". Drinks, chips, and snacks will be available throughout the day for donations.

Update #4 (23-02-2019)

Hey everyone! There's one week to go until the F5J contest and two weeks to go until the F3J contest. This is the last call for F5J contestants and a nudge to those on the fence for the F3J contest! The events on F3XEvents.com do not have a closing date or time, but please be aware we're preparing for those that have registered.

Since the F5J contest is up next weekend I'll cover some tings that I want those pilots to think about:

* We'll be flying 10 minute flight windows with 5 minutes between flight groups.
* At the moment we'll have 4 flight groups.
* This puts at about an hour a round.
* I'd like to have a fly-off consisting of 3 flights with the top 6 pilots advancing from the prelims. However, I leave this up to a consensus for those pilots attending. Please think this over and we'll discuss at the pilots meeting
* Pilots meeting for F5J will be 9:00 AM on Saturday.
* The goal is start flying by 9:30 AM (timer starts at 9:25 and horn goes off at 9:30) and start no round later than 4:00 PM (this plan has us starting a round at 3:30; if this is the case we'll start the next round and be done flying by 4:30).
* We'll shift the pilots meeting back on Sunday morning.
* We will fly starting Sunday 9:00 and start no round after 1:30. This should allow us to get at least 10 rounds in the preliminaries.
* Flyoffs will start at 2 PM and be 3 rounds (if held).
* Points from the prelims will not carry over to the flyoffs!

Update #5 (28-02-2019)

Directions to field:

For those coming from I-95: Take exit 311 and head West on State Road 207.

Head West on State Road 207. After the I-95 overpass travel 1.6mi. You will turn RIGHT onto Vermont Blvd. This road changes names around the first bend to Alan Nease Rd. Continue another 2mi. You'll see the waste disposal facility to the left. The best coordinates Google gives is to that location. You'll want to pass it (when heading North on Alan Nease Rd.) and immediately after its entrance is First Coast BMX park. This is the entrance to SARCF's field. Continue on the path to the North of the BMX track heading East. After passing through the second gate the power field will be located immediately to your left. The sailplane field is located to the right. Please follow the path to that location.

Update #6 (04-03-2019)
PDF results for the F5J qualifying and fly-offs are attached!

Update #7 (F3J #1)(04-03-2019)
Hopefully you F3J pilots are ready! We're counting down the days to Friday. It looks like we'll have a couple of guys getting into St. Augustine Thursday evening. We have yet to set a time for Friday morning. This will be posted tomorrow. The same goes for anyone wanting to practice at the field on Thursday.

I'm not even going to look at the weather until Thursday afternoon. Trying to keep tabs on it for the F5J weekend was an exercise in futility!

Thanks to all the pilots and helpers that showed up over the past two weekends!!!

Early March in FL sounds great! I would consider attending an F5J contest there.

Are you planning to register it as an F5J Tour event?

Don't say warm too loud you know how that can work out, even in FL. I probably will tag along with Dick and Oleg for the F5J contest part.

Frankey, we have a German contingent so a 3 day contest makes it more appealing.
This could be a international tour event.
