Hobby King Raven 990mm DLG

With the recent sales I ended up with a Hobby King Raven .
Hmmm , where to start .. ?

Hinge Tape - The stuff used on the Ailerons is so stiff ..

A) The servos groan under the load .
B) The ailerons twist and bend stretching the covering
C) A carbon control horn broke lose

Obviously I had to remove it ( Hinge tape ) , simply horrendous stuff in my opinion .

The servos .. They don't centre well at all ..

Spring pull on elevator ..
Initially I thought it way soft , but seems to work ok as is for now .

I put in a RX4R receiver and a small 1s battery to get the CG pretty spot on for factory recommendation .
Use coupon code ( GBold4570 ) to get it cheaper at Gearbest ( RX4R Rx ) .
There will be a review on the RX4R posted shortly .

Chuck Testing

I took the Raven out for some chuck tests and trimming .
With all control surfaces straight the Raven pulled up when given a chuck .

Initially my Ailerons were set to 35% throw and my elevator was also set to 35%
The Ailerons were lack lustre at best and I increased throw to 45% .
The elevator was very sensitive and I put in some expo , I ended up with some 40% Expo when I had to come home . ( The Raven Broke )
Also my elevator has a serious amount of down trim for the Raven to glide straight and level . ( ? )

The Raven Broke

I was wondering about the vertical stabiliser and just how much of a weak spot it might be .
And weak it is .
On my very first landing I heard a crack .
A few landings more and the Vertical Stab was lose ..
Anyhow I also noticed the boom had split ,
A) Vertical Fin broke lose
B) Boom has split from the V F
Folks , this is with gentle trimming chucks ..

So now the reader is up to date ..
The raven needs fixing .
The raven is ? , well the one I got is not that impressively put together .
My Mini DLG pro seems to be higher quality over all .
These servos are disappointing , not nearly as nice as in the pro .
I can see why HK keeps taking their DLG's off the market .

I think the Raven has potential to be a really nice DLG , but the way mine was put together ? and the poorly centring servos ?
Just have to say I think it's over priced .

So , now some fixing .
Then next time I might actually try launching it VIA the peg .

Hmmmmm , DLG .

I do like DLG ...
Also have the little A800 .. Which will be flow with the Jumper T12
I want to experience the difference between the T12 and A800 transmitter .
So far looks like the T12 might be smoother .. ( Static Testing )

The "Elf" type from BG is what i am considering , its probably near identical to the Raven other than decal/colour , maybe the servos.
The Raven is available from the UK warehouse which is a bonus but after reading of your experiences it has "put me off" a little. Maybe need to look a bit more and increase the budget to grab something reliable .................

Raven is closer to the DLG mini pro ...
The one @ BG that is Elevator Rudder I ordered , a while ago now ..
Supposedly back in stock the 23 of Dec ..

I think it's just called the DLG mini ..
Might get mine 2019 - Is it worth waiting for ?

2019 - Maybe my Birthday , I might get one of those sub 100 gram 1 meter DLG jobs . ( Maybe )
I like DLG , it's quiet , and people are not upset by them ( Park Friendly ) . As well good exercise !

Yeah thats the one, the blue and white has ailerons the yellow is just rudder and elevator.

I have noticed that it is never in stock OR stock is expected...................... i have been looking since last june and things dont seem to move very quickly with this glider and the lack of any reviews on BG are a bit worrying but i still want one. I may have to upgrade the main boom though to something a little more "sturdy"

I own the DLG Mini pro , got mine from Hobbyking about a year ago ..
The Raven is , supposedly a upgrade (?) ,
And the DLG mini , hobbyking stopped selling it , and banggood started selling it (?) along with the pro version
And then HK stopped selling the pro , and along came the Raven .

The DLG mini was supposed to be back in stock Dec 23 2018 , and then it takes a week to ship ...

I hope I get mine Jan 2019 ..

I am looking at the ELF , 95 grams .... https://www.hyperflight.co.uk/produc...e=elf-mini-dlg
