Direct Connection Ultimate Kaos 60 Build

Now that the Aeromaster is complete I have been deciding what to build next while building a new indoor model from Mountain Models called the Tom-E-Boy

I had boiled down the potential next builds to the following list.

Sportmaster- Lou Andrews .

Kwik Fli III - I have been wanting to build a Kwik Fli for a number of years.

Ultimate Kaos 60 - by Direct Connection, or the Killer Kaos by Bridi.

Warlock 40 - by Airtronics. This is basically a 40 sized Kwik Fli with a turtledeck. I bought this kit at my old LHS over 35 years ago. I have wanted to get it built for that long also

As you can tell by the title I have decided to build the DC Ultimate Kaos 60.

It will be built as conventional gear with retracts which will be Dave Brown units. The Ultimate Kaos doesn't lend itself well to tri-gear retracts without a lot of surgery, so a tail dragger it will be.

I will go with the side mount engine per plan and a tuned pipe. With side mount engine and belly mount tuned pipe I am assuming I will be going with the "cranked" pipe from WestonUK.

The first thing I have to do is decide on an engine. I am blessed with too many to choose from.

Anyone of the engines would haul this plane well. I am planning to build it light, and would like to keep it as close to 6 lbs as possible.

OPS 60

Enya 60XF4

OS 61 FSR

Nova Rossi R60F

If I want to go with a pumped engine, I have the following to choose from.

YS 61-S Classic

Enya 60XF-4

OS 61SFP

Ultimate Kaos & Engine choice (s)

Dave, my old pattern flying buddy (Dan Bower) ran the OPS Gold Head in his LFX-6 #2 ship, many years ago... that plane was a ROCKET ! Do you also have the nifty 'slider' for adjusting the header/pipe to the proper length? Was an 'O' ring set up and made life easy. I'm pretty positive it was a complete set up from OPS. Header, adjustment tube and tuned quite pipe.
BTW.. has the Doctor put you on any kind of medication for our addictions? If so, please pass on the good word... I may have to talk to mine about starting up a good recovery program. Remedy: build more airplanes. I've relapsed already.

I have the OS RX -P in my Atlanta and it is a bullet. I am a YS man and I think any of the "pumped" engines would be way tooooooooooo much. The Enya is a very good choice.

It's official. 1st glue applied. Joining of the fuse sides. They are long! About 51"

It will be awhile before it looks something like this.

I found this Ultimate Kaos on the internet. Whoever built it did a nice job. It was being sold at one time or another. Owner went electric!

That looks familiar. I built that one some years ago, wish I still had it. I’ve built 3 Ultimate Kaos. Great flyers. Jim

Cool! I'll be watching too. The Ultimate Kaos was the bees knees in the mid 90's
