MIG 31 Firefox

This one was suggested to me to have a go at .. and after doing a bit of research I found (or didn't find) anyone on the forum thats had a go at it

So here goes ..

At this stage its still on the drawing board .. and .. as always if you have any suggestions or comments, feel welcome to chirp in

If anyone has any idea for the C of G .. please feel free to have a go

Looks like it will be about 1 metre wing span and about 1300 long with twin 64mm or 70mm EDFs

I know you are shooting for a particular size here so my comment may not apply.

I am working on 4 pylon 82" span proof of concept foamy model for " A Patron ".
He has sent me a new FMS 50mm edf to use for dimension and sizing nacelles etc.

Specs say 800 + gms thrust while a banggood reviewer says at least 700.
So yanks can use 24 oz for their calcs.

As for my project thats 6 lbs of thrust total for all 4 units.

MY POINT for this thread is:
The FireFox could two of these for 3 lbs thrust total.
They are pretty inexpensive and from several sources.

But they do not come with any mounting lugs.
So I designed a 3DPrinted Fan Band with mounting lugs.
I will be testing for thrust on my stand using those straps next week.

Thats all for now. I'll be eagerly watching this thread

It seems these guys picked up the ball from RCPowers, but the Firefox is not one of their plans listed.

They look good Bob, I don't tend to use the lugs anyway, I usually cut them off and use masking tape around the EDF and glue them straight into a Depron cone (or similar) this way if you want to reuse the EDF just remove the masking tape and you are back to a clean fan again

What about this one Bob .. https://www.rc-castle.com/index.php?...earch=50mm+edf

Or ... this is the one you suggest https://www.banggood.com/FMS-50mm-12...r_warehouse=CN

or .. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/FMS-...791395399.html

It would be also good to make it a little bit smaller too .. I think Duke wants to build it with 2 x 64mm EDFs .. just had a look and I can go down to about 900mm wing span with 64mm EDFs and maybe a bit smaller with 50mm EDFs

Thanks Lockey. Just had a look at the nose. Had a good look at the available picks and video. I think the "full wrap" fuse nose looks best. Just like the Chery bomber.
Looks great buddy.

Bob- That sounds great mate. Will try and plan a trip down.

Has anyone got a guess for the COG???

My guess is just infront of the intakes on top

Tony, I believe that the Banggood and Aliexpress are the both same one that I have.

I needed a way to attach the Fan to the Pylon type mounting.
I've done Your tape and glue method in the past as well.

I still have some Black Depron left over from the "Old Days" .
I will be using it on THIS one fer sure !
