The `Life, The Universe, and Politics' forum has its place and is enjoyed by a large diversified group, but it has evolved into 95% Politics. There are several participants of `LTUP' who prefer things other than politics, but often get lost in the political noise of the thread.

Would there be any possibility of separating the `Politics' into a forum by itself, and starting a `Life, the Universe, and the Pursuit of Happiness (i.e. hobbies other than RC)' forum separate from politics? (The title of the `LUPH' forum could be something else.)

The Chit Chat forum already exists which is intended for such discussions with religious and political posts not permitted. It was a bad idea when it was proposed, because it helped to remove some of the non-political posts which would have been posted in LTUP, diluting that overall content and increasing the dominance of politics in that forum.

Perhaps dissolve the `Chit Chat' forum and combine it into the better-defined new `LUPH' one.

The half -a-dozen regular posters in Chit Chat won;t be very happy with that. There must have been nearly a whole page of posts, outwith the one long running active thread in the past month.

Then remove the `LTU' from `LTUP' and keep the `Chit Chat' forum (although a name change may promote more serious threads, as well).

The Chit Chat concept is fundamentally flawed. Each thread is privately moderated by the thread starter. That goes directly against the concept of thread ownership being a community thing, rather than the property of the thread starter. The potential for abusive moderation is huge and would increase dramatically if the forum changed from a little-used backwater to a busy forum, like LTUP.

That is a good point, although it would be nice to have a general interest thread isolated from politics. Some form of moderation would be required, though.

It's certainly annoying that pretty much every non-political thread gets 'polluted' by someone trying to score the same ol' political points!!

Separating "LTU" from "P" would result in a million threads a day being moved from "LTU" to "P" when the content inevitably turns political.

Just leave it the way it is. If anyone is relying so much on an RC model forum for non-RC discussion that they feel like they need three strictly off-topic discussion forums (plus numerous "related topics"), it might be time to check out Reddit, or Gaia, or whatever people are into these days.

I have had many discussions about this topic over the last decade. After all these years of talks it has been determined that the LTUP will remain as is.

I agree but maybe call it "Other Hobbies". If so would guns and hunting be allowed? If it is then gun politics may creep in.
