Proteus Bipe - AJ Aircraft

We had a nice surprise today at the field! A local IMAC and 3d Pilot brought out a new AJ Aircraft Proteus Bipe (on 8s). He started trimming and went right to learning a sequence. He even had the sequences printed out! This new bipe looks like it will be perfect for what he wants to do. And we got a new pattern pilot

8s? So it’s a bit smaller than 2m? 120 size?
Is this a “one of” or a soon to be released plane?

From the website:
Wing Span - 62"
Length - 67"
AUW - 9 lbs. RTF
Electric Power - 1700-2000 watt rear mount motor
Radio - 8 channel Rx with 6 mini size servos (Aileron/Elevator) & 1 standard servos (Rudder)

He was running the recommended 5220 330Kv AJ Motor and an 18x10 prop. Mostly trim flights. Flew solid and with authority. Uplines were like you would expect from a good 2m pattern setup. He had no mix until he put in a small down elevator to low throttle mix as it was pulling to canopy on downlines. He plans to leave it assembled in the 78" bed of a Ford pickup so he can stop at the field for quick practice flights on the way to work in the morning.

Yes, it is slightly smaller than a 2m sized bipe because it is all wood and AJ told me this way it would be able to stay under the weight limit.

There aren’t many ‘120’ size pattern biplanes
Before this one, the only other one I knew of was CPLR’s Galaktik 110 bipe produced by Winners Model

$510 seems like a good price

I had a BJCraft Fantasista 120 (8s) and it flew really nicely.

I bought one a couple weeks ago. I have not started putting it together yet because I'm converting an original zimpro dalotel over to electric. The proteus is very nice like all of AJs planes. It reminds me of a little allure bipe. I'm planning on running a 6s setup that Ive used in previous airplanes for about 2000 watts. Its going to be my backup and quick flights planes to my two alchemys for next year.

Yes and No.
I've had 2m planes and jets shipped from Europe and Japan where the shipping costs were almost as much as the plane! And then I've found some companies that are extremely reasonable...go figure.

However, in the case of Chris at Bondaero (who I think is sort of the UK equivalent to Mike at F3AUnlimited), his US shipping prices are very reasonable IMHO.

The CPLR Galaktik 120 size biplane is about $511 USD (based on today's conversion rate), plus fixed shipping of $57.81, for a total price of $569.71 USD.

That seems like a very reasonable price to me for a 120 size biplane of good quality

Sorry for the OT, but I only brought up the Galaktika since its the only other similar plane to the 120 size Proteus biplane ... and it's pattern related.

And remember You substract the VAT (Value Added Tax) when goods are bought here in EU area and importing to a country outside EU area for example US. The VAT varies slightly among EU countries but in UK where Bondaero is located it is 20%.
All goods in EU countries are advertised with VAT, at least when it is advertised to ordinary consumers. It is required by EU regulations.

So a CPLR Galaktik 120 size biplan that Bondaero has listed for 399 =US $511
https://www.bondaero.co.uk/90120_siz...3_1850903.aspx
(399 is a special offer price they say in the image)
will have an actual price before shipping of $511 minus 20% ($102.2) = $408.8 when the buyer is located outside EU.
