Finally the weather has warmed up enough.. at 6 degrees-C the lipos are ok.. 2s is adequate .. 3s is fine..
the noisy prop is down to a poor fitting adaptor and unbalanced prop..these are now sorted for next weeks session..
Along with the small quasar you might notice a couple of funnyCubs flying.. they are good, able to fly very slowly at low power yet able to aerobat well..

testing flights are continuing.... both large and small size Qv3's are going well...
performance is very similar.
They both use 450 2s lipos..
Note..flight times are better with the larger model , this is contrary to what I expected..
Max thrust is much better on the larger 8.5oz Qv3 model, its using a gartt 2204-1800..with an 8x4.3prop
The smaller lighter fatty uses an tgy1811-3800 with a 6x3 prop..

It may be worth making a larger in-between size "Fatty" using the Gartt setup..
A 20" span is my thought.

I'm guessing if my big qv3d was made of epp instead of heavy foamboafx it would be a real floater.

Might try a lightweight version for winter

Its taken many years but Ive come to the conclusion that you must build your models light if you want the best performance.. I do find that difficult because our venue is a killer ...bash and crash wise..
8mm EPP works for strength but is just a bit over heavy.. Indoors on 2s the standard 23" span 8mm size is excellent, on 3s it can be a bit much, but has plenty of thrust for vertical .. outside it will be ideal..
5mm would be a better floater but is a bit too fragile..

Finding an optimum size for the material we can buy is the key..robot birds has both 5mm and 8mm..
perhaps for outside a 25" or 26" using the 8mm will give best floating results.. or going smaller a 20" using 5mm ..

For performance building , getting floaty models look at the mutiplex 3d models manuals... use their methods to save weight..
