Spin Master Air Hogs Intense Micro RC Plane

I was just at radioshack and they had this little RC plane for sale for $20. It's one of those "Air Hogs" planes and it's called Spin Master Air Hogs Intense Micro RC Plane. It looked like a 2 channel with rudder control. Anybody know if it actually flies and if it's worth $20?

I wouldn't spend money on it.

I'm gonna go get one! For $US20 it might be worth a hack.
Or at worst, more parts....

Flys OK but control is throttle on only with bang bang turn and it has a bit of lift so turning a bunch is a must but it does fly.

Thanks for the report Matthew!
Sounds hackable...

I think so..there is basicly a nice electronics board with output to the motor and the 3 wires going to the actuator.TX range is good so far.

What worth would it be to hack it? I think weight would be the issue, how much does the components weigh, Rx, battery? Sounds like a fancy bit-car plane to me.

OK, er, just got one today... I was WRONG..
It was a bummer; a sequence of bad news that got worse..

The first bad news came from the manual where I learned that
the throttle was on full blast the moment the transmitter got turned on.
To shut off the thrust while the thing is in flight, you have to turn off
the transmitter! Then, of course, you lose rudder control! Gag!
Barf.. That's just bad design.

Then I tried to charge up the flight batteries.... Nope.. The LED on the
transmitter did not light, and the Nimh battery pack didn't charge.
Nothing I tried would fix that.

So, still hoping it was hackable, I took it apart; and found more bad news.
The receiver circuit board was big, and heavy. Not worthy of a hack...
The rudder actuator was pure Bit Car, and as usual, I broke a magnet wire
on one of the coils..

In the end, I had a direct drive N-20 motor and prop, some Nimh cells that
I won't use, some bit actuator parts that I doubt that I'll use, and a bunch of
crap that will end up in a land-fill.

The only good thing that came out of the whole experience is that,
because I bought it, the thing won't end up disappointing some kid...

Maybe that makes it worth buying, but it would make it the most expensive
N-20 I've ever bought....

Over here in the U.K. they are selling them for £30 in Woolworths which I think is a rip off for what they are.

Sorry Del, mine works fine and flies good once you get it airborn. Infact its a pretty slow flyer and gains altitude quite fast. Anyway...........
