You're up early , Mate !

I did a Skype vid conf with Lockey and his Girlfriend last PM.

We actually had a good connection the whole time.
There is just no good way to predict it.

Too much Vertical with the Slowly and it'll take an hour to get back down
if you don't catch a thermal.

A few lights and it's a terrific No Worrys night flyer.
But it IS much harder to see the fence in the dark.

OK maybe some light s for the fence as well.

The slowly will have its own radio so we may be able to get some air to air video of it if I chase you with an FPV plane.
Lots of potential...

Is that a hovering quad type of FPV or and fast mover winged type ?

I'm up for it !

Hi Way To THE Danger zone !

no go read this thread
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...n-s-Spaceplane

and then guess who did all the CAD and CNC work for each version of that folly ?

No need to guess.
You get star billing, as you should.
A very interesting read.

Re the air to air, I'd use the modified Easy Glider. It can go nice and slow.

ED got me involved on his giant XB-70 Valkyrie project.
Then He hit me with the XR-1.
We ar now doing the YB-60. A jet version of the B-36.

Those tiny CAMS and Tiny TX's can be installed on just about any sized RC plane these days.
I deem the 25mW units to be used for close-in quad racing or indoor use.

Even with 200mW and up to 600 mW I get some giggly flashing and noise.
That fact or situation always made me uncomfortable when flying.
Never knowing if I was about to LOOSE IT !

Back when my Mobius CAM was working I also had the 200mW "TX SHOE" .
So, I could record Hi rez inside the CAM on its' uSD card and still TX low rez
to my Goggles.
I could at least view later what I'd been doing.

These newer wifi Quads aren't much better as far as rez .

What we are being shown in Youtube presentations et al
are vids from a separate GOPRO class DVRs.

It was a big disappointment when I discovered that the Goggles were
not getting higher rez sent to them , due to the NTSC or PAL that was being tx'd.

Then along came higher rez tx/rx combos for a mere $1600 or more aaaaarrgh !

My FPV enthusiasm has withered from that point on.

Yes, the low res is a bummer.
I still found it to be quite involving. I use the past tense because I haven't flown for a while, even though I have 2 good planes are ready to go.

Power, lots of power.

I just fired up ancient radio that will be dedicated to the Slowly and ran the motor (not in the plane yet) with the 11 x 4.7 prop pictured previously.
Pulls like a freight train
VTDIY was on the money when he said it would not be lacking in power.
Should be about right for an old man like me. It should take off Shortly and gain height Fastly if required.

If you can check the temp on the motor.
Don't get it too hot.

Many yrs ago I had two 700's with the long shaft
I put them in my version of The Twins.

I have another in the Big Foamy HK Fox glider tho I believe it is a 750.

Lots of power in both sizes.

I didn't do a long pull, but the motor didn't seem to get hot and bothered.
I will test it with my watt meter to make sure no cruelty is happening.
We can always prop it down if we need to, but I think it will mostly be puttering around on a low power setting and will never experience more than a few seconds of WAT.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Although some super Hi AOA Slow Flight Fun can run the power up a tad as well.

Then again how much slow does one need to go ?

Highly Scientific Methods Used Here

I'm now fiddling with the wings and needed to establish the dihedral angle.
Opting to go to the cutting-edge of TLAR, I fired up one of Bob's videos (see pic) and made a freehand sketch of the angle.
Nothing but the the highest standards of production around here...

With the High wing and all that dihedral it just one big pendulum.

NO WORRY's !

No over engineering and definitely NO Twisty Nickers !

Engineering minimal.
Nickers as per ISO standard.
All good...
