Greg Stone - for District X Vice President

Greg Stone is running forDistrict X Vice President.

A Message from Greg Stone

Iím Greg Stone from Southern California and Iím asking for your vote for District X Vice President. I pledge to visit and bring awareness to clubs and club events as I have for the past few years as a District X AMA Associate VP. I enjoy meeting our members and participating in all types of events. I want to raise visibility across the district about our clubs, events, and fun flyís as well as AMA resources. I want to establish a district website for everyone to share about events and happenings at their fields as well as further representation in Model Aviation. I want to establish an open communication channel for all members.

I will also work to build effective working and personal relationships with the AMAís professional staff and other District Vice Presidents. As your District X VP, I will communicate the issues and concerns of our District to the Executive Council and ensure our voices are heard on national matters. I have been flying radio control for over 40 years and have been involved with many clubs as both a member and club leader. I started in control line and model rocketry and since then have been involved across all aspects of R/C. I have also been active in supporting various educational STEM programs from Science Olympiad to collegiate design, build, fly competitions. Participating in these events has given me the chance to visit flying fields and members in other District X states. Iím committed to ensuring future generations will be able to enjoy modeling as we do today.

I can tell you folks from direct experience working closely with Greg on many of his projects over the years, that he is the right person for this position. His balance of technical experience, ability to work with all levels of government, organizational skills coupled with his ability to solve complex problems provides a strong set of skills the AMA urgently needs.

His level headed, logical approach to problem solving will benefit us all. Growing our hobby, preserving the fields we have and his interest in the next generation of flyers is a proven skill we can all benefit from. Don't just sit on the sidelines and complain.

A vote for Greg is an ideal first step to getting involved and growing our our great hobby.

I like the violent stuff!
I've been a member of OCRCC for years. Greg gave me my wings test. When I go to local events he's always there. Greg and his son are dedicated pilots. He's got my vote.

Your resume is impressive, but could we hear a little more detail on what you want to bring to the table? Your bio is a tad vanilla. For instance: you want "to establish an open communication channel for all members." That sounds like RCUniverse, RCGroups, etc. Are you suggesting a district-specific channel, or do you wish to host a new site specific to District X?

I love the work you've done on STEM. Making sure we keep the next generation in the fold will probably be the only defense we have against the Commercial Drone Alliance dedicating the airspace to themselves. (Ever seen a city try to close down the kids' ballpark? I wish we could get that sort of parent dedication on our side!)

In any case, I was just hoping we could get a little more detail about what you'd like to do. I have my agreements and disagreements with Larry, but I'm not comfortable voting him out for an unknown.

More Detail

Glad to provide more detail for you and everyone else with the same question.

While I know I cannot change things overnight it is clear to me that we have a deficiency in communication throughout our district. As you noted I do think we need a district focused, consolidated, communication medium(s) such as a district specific site and social media group. We need this to easily provide regular updates about what is going on from the AMA, updates and proposed changes from the FAA, as well as congressional updates. I have found I get more information from other districts than my own.

Additionally we need to be able to easily share more within the district about what everyone is doing from events, community activities, and educational programs. There is much we can benefit from by understanding the programs and activities that are successful. By learning what activities generate community or educational support we can raise our positive influence and support.

I look forward to earning everyone's support and any feedback and recommendations are welcomed.

I'm curious why this is in Electric Flight. Is there something about District X that is electric-only, or is this candidate an electric-only proponent? I could understand that if California has determined that non-electric flight causes cancer and/or reproductive issues like everything else there does.

I'm not in District X, so it's just curiousity about the posting of a District-specific thing (or is it?) in a worldwide interest forum.

It's at the top of the forum sections. I wanted to put it where it would be seen. The AMA section seems to be more a debate section.
