New Props arrived! Received 7x4.5x3 blade props from China. Quiet but not as powerful as the 8x4.5x2s. Hovers and lifts at 50% throttle while the 8x4.5 lift and hover at 40% throttle. Quieter and motors are almost cool after a 10 min flight. With the 2 blade props motors were hot. Run time with a 3S 2200 ma battery the same 10 minutes.

Switched PIDs to CleanFlight stock. Not bad, just vibrations at times and sometimes not. Slight jitter when armed but stops when disarmed. Flies really well with crisp yaw control and no overshoot when a quick yaw is given. Funny my other two Tris have the same amount of play on the tail but do not jitter.

Placed rubber isolator grommets after trimming out mounting holes on the FC. A little better. Servo still has more play than when I first installed it. Have two spare digital metal gear servos.
May change it out soon. TRI still flies fine although servo vibration is visible. Possible vibrations wore down the servo? Maybe with isolation a new servo will work. |

New problem! Changed servo to a HiTec carbonite. Changed direction in CLI. No shake and no play. So far OK. However while flying whenever I pitch forward or back more than a bit the Tri yaws. Checked mixers in my Taranis X9D and no mixing going on. Checked CleanFlight and do not see anything strange.
Any ideas? |

Problem solved. Went to default PIDs. New problem cropped up. Goes into a spin after a few minutes. Noticed yaw prop at the end of throw. New yaw mech which from an unbuilt HJ I purchased for the new servo was reamed out to fit the spline of the HiTec servo was loose.
Removed the 2 servo spacers and jammed the servo gear in and seems fine now. Yaw control is excellent. Snaps to a stop with no overshoot after a yaw command. |

However after a hard landing where tail rotor shifted to the end the tail would not center. Yaw servo gear did not move. That servo has no play and cannot be moved by hand or accident. Manually centered motor mount and pressed in to the gear, all was good.
That Hitec karbonite servo is one tough to move servo unpowered. The Tri does fly excellent though! |

the hitec gear keeps coming loose which puts the HJ into a death spiral. Epoxied it into the stripped mount and works great. the hitec's splines are not the same as the HJ's used mount was reamed out slightly.
Found a new mount on ebay which uses a servo horn to attach to the yaw mech . Looks easier to maintain. Will install when the epoxy fails. So far it is my best flying Tri. Quiet and long flights. No tail shake! |
