Warlark Pro 85 2S Tiny Whoop - DSHOT and cam fixed




Warlark Pro 85 is some time old, but you can get it on offer for about 80 € with a Frsky, Flysky or DSMX receiver. The Tiny Whoop is with 2S Lipo what makes it so interesting. With 2S power it's much faster and more aggressive when flying than a 1S Tina Whoop. Ok, the weight of 50g is of course more than a micro Tiny Whoop with 20g.

But the Warlark Pro 85 is small enough to fly through the home or garden. And that's really fun with 2S. But first to the negative points that I have fixed.



The Warlark Pro has 3 different receiver boards. My is the Flysky board which need to be updated to version 1.2 as follows:
  1. download the Programmer v 1.0 for RX flashing from overskyrc page
  2. ldownload the RX firmware 1.2 from overskyrc page
  3. press BIND button and connect USB to PC
  4. under BF go to CMD to update RX: serialpassthrough 1 57600
  5. start the programmer v1.0 and update the RX firmware

This is important to update the receiver to V1.2, otherwise no SBUS will work under Betaflight 3.5 and you will have to use PPM protocol or stay with Betaflight 3.01 without "Turtle Mode". The Warlark Pro has an OSD display. This is a MinimOSD and can only be customized via a MinimOSD GUI software. That works if you do this:
  1. press and hold BIND button and plug USB into PC
  2. under Betaflight CLI for updating OSD type:
    serialpassthrough 0 115200
  3. open MW_OSD_GUI
  4. connect to Batterie
  5. under the GUI connect to the OSD, read
  6. setup the OSD parameter
  7. write it back


To use ESC's with DSHOT600 protocol unfortunately has to be soldered. It is a small cable soldered directly to the F3 FC, which is indeed a fingertip exercise. So be careful not to overheat the FC or solder the pins together. I used solder paste and cover the other pin with a tape.



After the yellow cable is soldered, DSHOT600 can be used and the last 4th motor turns after I have entered the following commands for the 4th motor under CLI:

In the settings under Betaflight 3.5, I let the motors turn inverted, in the opposite direction. Here you have to set the direction to REVERS under BLheli Configurator for all motors.



And of course I have the BL_Heli firmware updated to 16.7 so that I can use the turtle mode (FLIP OVER AFTER CRASH).




Binding the receiver to your remote control is easy:
  1. connect the battery to Warlark Pro
  2. press the BIND button for 2 seconds (at the back, to the right of the power socket)
  3. the LED is flashing fast now
  4. Now bind your remote control to the Warlark Pro
  5. the LED stops flashing so the binding process was successful



Now I activate under Betaflight RX serial and the RX protocol on SBUS for my Flysky receiver.






After binding I can test my transmitter under Betaflight. Note that the minimum value is not 1000 and the maximum value is not 2000. It is important that in the middle position of the gym balls the value is 1500. To correct this you can do this on the remote control or better directly under Betaflight with RXRANGE command which can adjust the min and max values for the transmitter. These are my RxRange parameters on my Flysky receiver and the Trunigy Evolution remote control:

The frequency of the video transmitter change is as follows:
  1. press 2x on the FR / B button then the VTX is in frequency setting mode. A short tone is heard
  2. press once to jump one frequency further according to the frequency table
  3. for the standard frequency with 5705 MHz press long until a long tone is heard. Frequency setting mode is now closed
  4. Wait 10 seconds and a long tone will be heard. Now the new frequency is stored and the setting mode is closed



In order to get a better video from the CMOS camera it is definitely worth taking the Caddx Turbo EOS1 camera. The EOS1 is the best CMOS camera in the small size 14x14x16mm with just 3.5 grams. The camera has the same big lens as the Runcam Sparrow is smaller and fits into the Warlark Pro.




Now everything is perfectly optimized on the Warlark and there are only a few settings under Betaflight to have a lot of fun while flying.



For the first flight I use the standard PID values and am very satisfied. The super rate I set instead of 0.70 to 0.60 because the Warlark Pro is very sensitive to control signals from the remote control.

Finally, motor on, set up three flight mode settings and put the buzzer on a switch. Angle Mode is a simple stabilized mode perfect for practicing. HORIZON mode can also rotate 360 degrees if I tilt 20 degrees, no matter in which direction. Acro mode is perfect for flying with the FPV goggles best where there is enough space. In the Acro mode everything is manual and requires good concentration.

Flashing RX, can't do button


Glad to see this article!!

I couldn't flash RX. Always times out. I tried many combinations of "press BIND button and connect USB to PC" but could not figure it out. I tried click and release then plug in, click-and-hold while plug in, with and without battery... What exactly did you do?

can help me I can not bind with my transmitter Flysky When I got the Drone I was able to do the bind I made up a flight with it only that I went to change the alarm of the battery and stopped working the communication of the transmitter with receiver so I tried to update the firmware of RX but it is giving invalid the port that this Drone connected then I can not update the firmware of the RX I tried also to update the betaflight for 3.1.7 but it did not resolve then I returned to the 3.0.1 zero point and I put the factory settings of the Drone anyway still has not resolved vie in topic that could be the configurator version of betaflight so I tried with version 3.1.1 of betaflight configurator but it did not solve it can help me I will send some videos for you to see how are the problems.

my receiver had to update with my computer could not was just change the computer that resoveu the problem I updated the receiver ja ok ok. thank you so much.

Ends up what was important for me was ensuring the board was "change the receiver signal mode to PPM" and that "Choose actions:" would appear after the serialpassthrough was set. Those were from the iffy PDF manual, and they helped me get past that point in your posted instructions.

What does soldering the two pins together actually do? Seems like voodoo without the explanation.

May try the fine point soldering and camera replacement. Ordering parts.
Thanks for the info about the Warlark. There's not enough around.
