Phil Renaud will be returning as CD for F3J and now also the F5J contest. Phil was involved in establishing F5J in New Mexico from its beginning so is well versed in the format. Trophies to third place

The site: The Santa Margarita Ranch is a historic 3600 acre commercial ranch hosting weddings, horse activities, an annual 5000 people food and wine tasting, ZipLine rides(over vineyards) and now again, glider contests... The place is huge. Google: www.historicsantamargaritaranch.com. This is a good central location for pilots from both Norcal and SoCal and Central Valley and out of state to meet in a great venue.

Weather: Santa Margarita (zip 93453), California, gets 25 inches of rain per year. The US average is 39. Snowfall is 0 inches. The average US city gets 26 inches of snow per year. The number of days with any measurable precipitation is 28. On average, there are 286 sunny days per year in Santa Margarita (zip 93453), California. The August high is around 85 degrees. The January low is 31. Sperling's comfort index for Santa Margarita (zip 93453) is 83 out of 100, where a higher score indicates a more comfortable year-around climate. The US average for the comfort index is 54. Our index is based on the total number of days annually within the comfort range of 70-80 degrees, and we also applied a penalty for days of excessive humidity.

The contests will be scored as follows: F3J with live updates on Jim Monacos’ on line system on the F3xevents.com website with F5J scored live using Gliderscore at Gliderscore.com.
The entry fee for both contests is $85.00 with registration available on F3xevents.com website. Please register by mail only until we see how registration numbers go. Fees will be due after registration closes October 13.
There will be free camping on site Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights.

San Luis Obispo Airport(10 miles) has connecting flights from San Franscisco, Phoenix and Denver
Santa Maria Airport(40 miles) has flights from Denver.
Motels in Atascadero(6 miles) and San Luis Obispo(12 miles). Beach cities Pismo Beach(18 miles). Morro Bay(26 miles)

I hope you can make it to this fourth annual F3JNational Tour event and second annual F5J USA Tour event.

NOTE THIS CHANGE TO THE FORMAT AND CONTEST DATES: I think our idea of a three day mixed contest was a good idea that isn't going to work out. So we will be changing it to two two day contests. F5J will be on Saturday and Sunday October 27/28. F3J will be rescheduled to Saturday and Sunday-November 17/18.
F3J tour events require 16 registered pilot sign up by two weeks in advance the the contest(November 3). If this doesn't happen that contest will not be a National Tour Event but will still be held if enough sign up. The teams will be 4 man instead of three.

Hey Rick, Just so I'm clear what you are saying is both 5J and 3J will fly a total of 10 prelim rounds and 3 final rounds over the course of the 3 days, right?

I signed up for F5J (pay by mail) to show my interest in converting this to a 2-day F5J-only contest (per my comment in Freq 2 field). I hope there is enough interest in the F5J community to make this contest happen.

I did the same. I hope that many other F5J pilots will register in this fashion and we can convert this contest to a two-day F5J event. Not meant to be a slight to the F3J crowd, but this thread hasn't been generating any 'traction' and sign-ups haven't been happening. So F5J guys, sign up and use the Freq 2 field as the place to indicate you're registration is based on the contest becoming a two-day F5J event.

Based on the F3J people I've talked to in NorCal, and speaking for myself, the idea of the mixed event is making us hesitate too.

Uncertain about my schedule right now, but if I decide to go it will be only if it is a 2-day F5J. Just not feeling the mixed format.

Ive been holding off on signing up because the 3-day mixed format is of no interest to me.

Consideration

I'd consider a 2 day F5J. The current format doesn't work for me and I suspect most others.
