ok but I thought was a no-no
Remove the props, or fit a 'smoke stopper' between pack & quad (this limits the maximum current).

There is blheli suite (32 and non-32) and there is blheli configurator.

As far as I know configurator is still a google chrome app so you have to search and install it through google chrome browser.

Sorry I meant BLHeliSuite, which is what HuffDaddy was using. This is a downloaded/installed application (as you know).

You are correct as well. I was just pointing out the difference to huffdaddy

thanks for your tips guys... is this the correct BLHeli?

I must have connected the USB cable a dozen times waiting a minute or so in between... it connects then throws this error

That's the Chrome configurator, which I'm not familiar with. You could try the latest version of the standalone BLHeliSuite:

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/dx6...4l/BLHeliSuite

You want the BLHeliSuite16714901.zip file, not BLHeliSuite32_32604.zip.

It looks like this when running:

does anyone know what the circled cable type is called?

its the cable that runs from the LEDs to the port in these pics...

I want to buy a Y splitter cable like this so I can (without soldering) run a LED strip at the front of the quad off the port...
not even sure if power-wise if that's even doable, hoping it is

I doubt you'd find a pre-made Y lead with those connectors. Normally you'd "daisy chain" boards (so all the LEDs can be individually addressed from BF), by connecting the 'out' pads of the first board to the 'in' pads of the second.

I think this one may be it... and if it is, now its a matter of the voltage I guess... not sure of power requirements for the board that has the LED port but am thinking I shouldn't have to worry about frying (over powering anything ) I am thinking that at worst the LEDs would just not be as bright running 2 off the one port as it is with just one...

not sure if that is an accurate assessment, just my uneducated guess

Nano-JST Y adapter

Should be OK power-wise. But with a Y lead I think your front and back LEDs will both be the same ... which may not be what you want.

You can always use a dmm and see what voltage the existing led strip is getting. Since it's a programmaboe strip maybe there's a chance it's got passthrough pads to daisy chain another set but if not you at least know the voltage from a dmm. I'm guessing it's a 5v led strip.

Bill: yaa, I didn't think about the front and back would be the same but you're right... I wonder if I remove the one pin from the connector (not cut it) so they stay all white... when the quad initially boots up they turn on all white for a second or two then change to the color scheme I programmed... hhmm

Crash: whats a dmm?

Dmm - digital multi-meter.
