MG996r servo and ESC not working fine

Hi newbie here. May I ask someone's help about the issue i encountered using my FS GT2b transmitter and FS GR3A receiver to control MG996r servo and ESC?

*I used the ESC to supply power into the receiver(@ch2), servo connected @ch1.

It so happen that when i turn the transmitter steering wheel from left and right the servo does not return to neutral position when i release the transmitter's steering into neutral position. I am not sure where the problem is (is it in the transmitter and receiver or the servo).
Another thing i noticed is when I turn the transmitter's steering wheel the servo does not stop it will continuously turn up to 360deg until i release the transmitter's steering wheel then the servo will stop turning.

The problem i encountered on my ESC is, it does not respond when I push the throttle on the reverse command. It only works when i pull the throttle(forward command).

Hope anyone can help me. THanks in advance

First the servo , if it continues to turn 360 degrees then it's probably either a knackered Pot (angle sensor) or a specialist servo not intended for cars , nothing the transmitter or receiver do should make that happen , if the servo is not centering either then that suggests the Pot (angle sensor) is failing as well , so try a new servo .
Some ESC that are intended for racing can be programmed to go forward only and when you push the trigger for reverse it gives breaks but not reverse , when racing you are not allowed to go in reverse . Most ESC with this function can be programmed to do both directions and that is usually the factory setting but it's possible that it's been set to forward and break only , what ESC is it ?

Hi Dadio,

You are right, my ESC gives "break" response when i suddenly push the throttle in full reverse. i thought the ESC will function on both direction cause it says its bidirectional(forward-reverse) with brake, i just bought it online .

For the servo, what do you recommend me to use/buy which will work like what you have said? And thanks for giving me info, im glad to know that my transmitter and receiver are not defective ..

i opened the servo. and found out that the pot was removed. So disappointed with the seller online. I tried different servo and it works.

Thanks for the advice dadio.

Hello guys.

May I hijack this thread and ask how I can set-up the GT2B to have zero motor power (channel 2) when releasing the finger and leaving the throttle in the middle ?

At the moment I have zero power when trigger is at highest, half power when trigger is released , and full power when trigger is fully pressed

I have a Turnigy plush 60A. Would it be rather about programming the ESC ?

Thank you

It sounds like you are trying to use an aircraft esc with a car controller. Car controllers use 50% or 30% as neutral point, 0% for brake or reverse and 100% for full throttle. Aircraft esc expects 0% as neutral throttle and 100% as full. Aircraft esc doesn’t have brake or reverse. Check if your esc allows for calibration to set the neutral and full throttle point. It also sounds like you need to reverse the channel.

The Plush ESC does have a brake setting.....enabled/disabled (default is disabled).

philgib, you did do a ESC throttle calibration, Plush manual calls it "throttle range setting", with the transmitter and ESC right? If you did, and have the brakes enabled, I think the ESC would turn on the brakes as soon as you released the transmitter's trigger. I am not sure, as I never used an ESC designed for "air" use.

Since posted in the car section of the forums, and like stated by cadmium spice, it would be in your best interest to use a surface ESC.
