We just finished round 2 of day 2. We are at the same slope today. 9 meters/sec. right now.

We are figuring out the slope more today. Still challenging for the entire field of pilots.

Lucas flew a 55” and everyone went crazy!

Times are in the 50’s and 60’s due to crossing conditions.

We started flying at 9 am and will stop at 6 pm.

I tried to upload a video from my computer here from the field and it failed 3 times, after half an hour I gave up.

A few photos from right now. It is so great to be able to look at sailplanes you have never seen before and check them out.

Looks like the weather conditions today was not the best only round 5 completed according to the vault. Round 6 looks look like it was scrapped. Hope conditions improve for tomorrow. Brandon has moved up in ranks, great job Brandon! Go team USA!

Welcome colleagues, USA team fly very well, but no one is able to win with conditions, If at the beginning of the round the wind blows 4 m / s and the deviation reaches 30 degrees and at the end of this round the wind accelerates to 9m / s and the deviation goes back 50 degrees is hard to say that it is fair to everyone. These organizational and logistical championships leave much to be desired. In the competitors' results, a lot of randomness is not due to lack of skills but only from what conditions they have found in their flights. In any case, it is a pleasure to watch the starts of colleagues from the US because they fly very well.

Its called group scoring. Cuts the deviation into half or thirds....

Is there a reason why they aren't doing group scoring? I assume they are measuring wind speed and direction, so it should be possible to somewhat fairly make the splits based on conditions.

Although the live feed isn't reporting wind speed or direction (just shows zeros).

That said, I did watch a fair bit of the feed for round 5 and the guys that went under 60 did fly the course well. They guys that went 55 really were precise and very technical. Without being there it is hard to say if their conditions were significantly better, but you could see they flew the course well.

Toward the end of the round you could see where the wind got more cross and it was very difficult if not impossible to get under 60 seconds. Those guys looked like they got screwed. . .

"Although the live feed isn't reporting wind speed or direction (just shows zeros)."

It's temporarily out of commision. One of the Aussie pilots knocked the pole with the wind meter down.

***Update***

I’ll try and clarify what yesterday as all about. We arrived at the slope with a light to moderate breeze, but crossed about 45-50 degrees. The first round (round 5) began and guys were struggling to stay in the 60’s. As the round progressed, conditions improved slightly and times began creeping into the 50’s. I believe the best time was 55.xx or somewhere in that arena. By the end of that round the wind had shifted even more to the South and things were getting ugly ! We saw some times well into the high 70’s. An occasional thermal would blow through and hand out a nice time to the lucky pilot, but those were few and far between.

The CD finally pulled the plug 3/4 of the way through round 6 and we moved to Turbulator. Upon our arrival, we again found 15-18 mph, but again crossed about 45-55 degrees. They setup the course and started where we left off at the other slope. First pilot launched and headed out over the water and ended up on the rocks ! They stopped again after that incident and about an hour and a half later they pulled the plug.

Today we hopefully will finish round 6 and get a couple more in. The issue is very light air and 60+ pilots makes for about a 2.5 hour round !

Stay tuned.....
