Servos for Ion/Hoot


What is the recommended elevator servo? Will an HS85MG fit or must it be a thin wing servo like an HS125MG? I haven't got the plane yet but want to order gear.

Edit: Also interested in aileron/flap servo thickness - will it take 85s or must it be 125s as well?

HS85BB is good, 125/5125 is better..

Thanks, but does the wing fit 85 size servos with no bulging? I was hoping to use MPX Polo Digis (same size as 85s) for the ailerons and 125MGs for the flaps.

Not to my knowledge. I have ordered it directly from the designer (who I assume is also the manufacturer), Rudi Freudenthaler in Austria. His web site is here: http://rfm.xedo.at and the Ion is listed under "RFM Produkte / Segelflug". I believe "mit Klappen" means "with flaps".

I was thinking about that but would it be sufficient if stressed...as in pulling out of a high speed dive? Seems a bit small...

HS-56 should do the job, I am using one in an FVK's Absolute. Fly/dive quite fast without problem.
Two things I would suggest are:
--No slop in linkage (No Humming sound in full positions)
-- Ensure the mounting is tight no matter glue it or mount it traditionally. And CHECK IT FREQUENTLY, BEST BEFORE EACH FLIGHT, OR AT LEAST AS LAZY AS ME, Check it after every LESS THAN PERFECT LANDINGS.

Such preflight checks are IMPORTANT. I lost one plane for a broken elevator linkage, after that I got used to check all linkages prior to launch. I saved the Absolute 2 weeks ago for I found the 2 of 3 mounting wooden blocks ( traditional way) had broken free from the epoxy base. Guess due to the flexibility of vert. fin when landed on long grass.
And yesterday, such routine preflight check spotted a loosen ail servo due to mishap when packing up in rush, the batt. loaded fuselage crushed to the exposed pushrod and thus freed the mount.

OK...maybe...but I think why not have the peace of mind of an HS125MG. I wouldn't have thought that the weight difference would present too much of a problem with an electric plane carrying a motor in the nose?

Hmm...this suggests maybe a flexible mount or simply gooping it in could be the go?

I have read too many reports about HS81s developing double-centering problems, so I tend to use 85s, which seem to be a significantly tougher and more precise servo. Which brings me back to the question about whether 85s (13 mm thickness, from memory) will fit in the wing and tail without bulging?

At the moment I am leaning towards fitting an HS125MG in the elevator (unless someone can assure me that an 85 will fit), 2 MPX Polo Digis for the ailerons (same size as 85s), and 2 HS85MGs for flaps (I got it wrong in the above post when I said I was planning to use 125s for flaps).
