New jas 39 build...

Hi all... I want to share my jas 39 construction. It has some modifications over the original steves build. I will put the rudder servo under the rudder and the wink will be kfm2 profile. The power setup also has modificatios... I will use huge power plant... The tmotor f80 using tmotor 45A esc and. 3s setup on 6x4 prop.
The canards will be full glass fiber covered with balsa leading edge. Wing has carbon leading edge to resist harsh landings... All the undes fuselage and nose will be fiberglassed too.

Nice looking model, thanks for sharing! That's a bright paint scheme, did you model it after a full-scale airplane?

Just 'did' some stand back and squint Sidewinders for mine.
3D printed and 115 mm long and I have not mounted them yet, just tacked them on with BluTack but they look OK.

Also an opportunity for a shameless plug for a great model....

Nice! I've always thought my model looks bare without the Sidewinders...

Years ago I built the F-18 and had fun with that one. Recently I have been messing around with Dollar Tree foamboard, and since Depron is like “unobtainium” these days, I thought I might try the Gripen in foamboard. The airframe with paint but no electronics, came out at 11 oz. I don’t know how that compares with the Depron airframe since I couldn’t find that in this thread. Might be able to save some weight by stripping the paper from one side of the foam and going easy on the paint. The flying weight is 24 oz which is a bit heavy, but I should get about 30 oz of static thrust from the propulsion system. The weather forecast for the next week or so looks bad, so it will be awhile before I get to fly it.

It flew today. A bit sensitive in roll, but manageable. Gobs of power. Vertical climb to zero airspeed ends with torque roll of about 360 deg/sec. Not the best color for staying oriented.

A long time ago in 2014 - a pushing propeller, painting the Czech Air Force

In may 2020 I did something crazy with my model ...
- I changed the drive (pushing propeller) to EDF 64mm
- I made an LED afterburner and new LED lighting (Arduino driver)
- I changed painting to Splinter Camo
- I added a main gear (demountable for hand start)
- there will be also stickers and weapon

Glad to see this thread alive. I love Steve's designs, and built a Grippen years ago. I got around to finishing up another (sold the first one), along with an X-29. As you can see, I'm not exactly the go scale or go home type.

Thank you again Steve, for sharing these wonderful designs!

Wow, GREAT looking models! Never thought I'd see a Blue Angels X-29, but I think it looks really nice with that scheme. You're welcome for the plans!
