A Celebration of RC

Horizon RC Fest 2018 was an amazing celebration of RC and RCGroups was there to experience it first hand. The event took place at Eli Field in Monticello, IL on June 1st - 3rd. It's billed as a hands-on, fun-focused event for the entire family. Spectators could see airshows, drone racing, car and truck racing, rock crawling, and so much more, but this event isn't just for watching. There were plenty of hands-on activities where anyone could try their hand at flying an RC airplane or driving an RC truck and the best part is, the event is FREE!

This year marked an important change to the event for RC hobbyists too, as it was open to fly or drive just about anything and anytime you wanted. I pulled in and the facility was huge! Lots of tents and shelter were provided for both spectators and pilots/drivers, the hangar was full of RC goodies that could be purchased and behind the flight line there were several food trucks. It's a great set up for both spectators and pilots/drivers.

At center stage is the giant paved RC airplane runway where most of the air related action takes place. On the right hand side is a heli area and drone racing track. On the left side of the event is a massive car and truck area. They had more track types than I knew even existed! It was amazing really. There was a very nice rock crawling track, a freestyle bashing track with lots of ramps, an RC monster truck race track complete with a starting tree, an RC tractor pull track, a figure 8, micro rock crawler track, a try me track and the huge TLR off-road racing track. There was even a vendor row where you could check out the latest products and meet the guys from Flite Test.

There was so much going on with events scheduled each day that it was like being at an RC Theme Park. There were races, contests, give-aways, and the airshow had 200MPH jets, world class aerobatics from Jase Dussia and even combat. There was also a candy drop for the kids, a real Monster Truck crushing cars, night shows and fireworks. It really was the ultimate family fun event. The team and volunteers at Horizon did a fantastic job putting it all together and making it fun for all involved. You need to be there next year! I guarantee you will see something you have never seen before and it will blow you mind.
