Esc issue Phoenix edge HV

Have an Edge HV in an airplane with 12s and Expwr 30 motor. The esc is shutting down on over amp.

Ran good all last year. Highest reading from the datalogger is 77 amps.

What is the next step for troubleshooting?

Thanks.

Which Ampere rated Edge do you have? What is the temperature shown in the datalogger? These ESC's shut down at somewhere around 200 F to protect them selves from permanent damage.

This is the 80 amp version.

I’ll look at the logs for the temperature. It doesn’t have a chance to warm up as when I do a run up it kicks off.

OK, it takes several minutes for the CC ESC to overheat and shut down on severe overload.

Out of curiosity, what setting do you have on Low Voltage Cutout, total motor shut down? Or reduce power to the motor? All of mine are programmed to reduce power to the motor on LVC.

This morning I checked the LVC settings. They were set to auto detect and shutdown. I changed to 36v and motor slowdown.

I also put my wattmeter on it and it is cutting out between 20 and 50 amps depending on how fast the throttle is increased. The voltage drops to around 47 v.

The beeps the esc is putting out is long short which is over current per the manual.

I disabled over current protection. Full throttle is 55 amps and no other issues.

Esc issue?

If it was working well and now it does not it has to be an ESC or motor problem.

Check the motor bearings and connectors. Could be a cold solder joint. Could also be a shorted winding but that's harder to measure.

Maybe you were pushing that ESC too close to the limit. Maybe a larger ESC would be more durable.

I suggest that you call Tech Support Tuesday. You may have to send them the motor and ESC for testing.

I would check the solder joints between the motor and ESC... Send me the data logs to clint.akins@castlecreations.com and I will take a look at it.

I would like to see the data log. Thanks very much.

Check your email. I replaced the esc and now it is duing it again after less than 40 flights.

Thanks
