Design Story

this has been a good adventure
ill fill in details later

things happen, people get busy, the need to continue the project pushes you.
a PM is sent.
a reply comes, sweet things will move forward agian.
click a tab, look a bit more at the man you PMed.
think a bit why did i pm this bloke, a feeling, a instinct passed to me whilst enjoying a cleansing ale with a new mate. it is something you can not define, something that just locks into the back of your mind. somehow someway the smallest of things direct you to the correct path. There may be lots of options in front of you, all will get you close to where you want get. Which one. the chose is the right one, which choice is the easiest one and which choice is the best one. ladies and gentleman this is where you scrap the crap on paper, you revert to nature. instinct directs you to the correct choice.

the click of a tab, the press of a button, wow yep i got the right man.

more later.....his last comment on emails

so from me More Later

Mould Story

The desire to make different size wings got me thinking of the systems that were used when I was toolmaking. in injection moulds we used different inserts to modify parts a little bit, this allowed us to make multiple similar parts from the 1 mould. This I have applied to the wing moulds.

Instead of looking at moulds as 1 piece for each size wing they are split into sections.

Tips Moulds
left and right hand to produce a 600 long tip panel

Centre Panels.
One 300 long to extend wing span to 1500
One 800 long to extend wing span to 2000

Wing Joiner Bar Jig
To set Joiner bar in exact spot, all wing panels should plug together in any combination.

Mould Joining Jigs
1. to join tips panels to make 1200 single piece wing.
2. add joiner bar jig to make 1200 2 piece wing.
3. 300 centre panel fitted between tip panels to make 1500 single piece wing.
4. 300 centre panel and joiner bar jigs fitted between tip panels to make 1500 3 piece wing.
5. 800 centre panel fitted between tip panels to make 2000 single piece wing.
6. 800 centre panel and joiner bar jigs fitted between tip panels to make 2000 3 piece wing.
7. hehehe another option may come.

6 wing options will come out of 4 wing panel moulds.
There will be extra work in machining these moulds and the jigs to the precision required to make sure joins are sweet.

Prototype wings moulds have been machined from mdf. Pics show the different configurations. Should be able to get a few wings out of them to test fly. Was good to do have found a few things in the programs that need changing.

first wing program turned up today, centre panel
loaded into machine, run first sim and got a error, easy fix.
more checks etc found roughing cycle not as i like, some setting changes coming.

copied part of the finish cycle to another program. added my own coding so now i can manipulate step over amount etc at the machine. the centre panels are parrallel so when you think about it they are 2D with depth, this makes it easy to manipulate straight line finishing. program went from a few thousand lines to a few hundred.

hopefully a full set of programs will turn up tomorrow so i can machine a set of trial moulds in mdf.

Mdf test moulds are being machined.
For some reason the left hand tips shrunk, must be a silly glitch somewhere.
Did a code adjustment, left hand tips fixed but now it machined a set of small right hand tips.
Best work out the problem before I go to steel moulds.

Should be able to make a few prototype wings out of these moulds.
