Modeling Retread

I noticed the pilots were pretty close together yet there were the usual well spaced pilot stations. Recently had a thread chat with a UK modeler who said they pretty much stand together. On contemplation, I believe the wide spacing was driven by the need to prevent interference radio-to-radio in the days of 72mhz narrow band. What’s been your experience? Maybe a show topic.
