Does This Sound Right?

A friend of mine has a graupner sp300 w/ 2.2:1 Gearbox with a gws 8x4 prop. He is using a pixie 20 esc which is fine to about 3/4 throttle. If you go above 3/4 throttle the motor stops. Why would this happen, It seems to me that the amp draw of that setup should be well within the range of the pixie 20. Is it a bad esc?

Any info would be helpful.

I forgot to mention the battery pack he is using. It is a 6cell 700 mah Nimh Maxell pack.

Everything else being in good shape, you should check out the battery pack. Try another pack and see if you get the same results. Somehow the ESC is seeing less voltage than it wants, either too high of a drain or too low of a supply. that's one possibility anyway.
The other might be how the end points are set on your throttle.

I am fairly sure the problem is that the battery voltage is dropping too low and the LVC is kicking in. Do you have a voltmeter?

He has another friend who does. I'm going to give him my 8 cell pack to try. It sounds like voltage though.
