FRSky R9M Lite - Long range mini module for Taranis X-Lite
Now we have the details available and listing on horus RC:
https://www.horusrc.com/en/frsky-r9m-lite-module.html And Banggood: https://www.banggood.com/FrSky-R9M-Lite-900MHz-Long-Range-RC-Drone-Transmitter-Module-for-Taranis-X-Lite-and-R9-Series-p-1297088.html ● Dimension: 62.4mm × 30mm×14.5mm (L×W×H) ● Weight: 20g ● Number of channels: 16 channels ● Operating Current: 100mA@7.2V ● RF Operating Frequency: 900MHz (915MHz/868MHz) ● RF Power: 100mW ● Compatibility: R9 series receivers FEATURES ● High-speed digital interface ● Super low latency and high precision ● S.Port enabled and support telemetry data transmission I really wonder how the Digital interface and super low latency will translate to real life usage, will it be beter then Crossfire CRFS?? This is the Frsky produc page for the R9 Lite: https://www.frsky-rc.com/frsky-r9m-lite-module-release Original Post: Raise your hand if you are like me and didn't order the Taranis X-Lite yet Only because it doesn't have a JR/Crossfire compatible module bay? Well, it is true, that is why i didn't order it, i really want it!! I used the Turnigy Evolution for a while, Then the Lua scrips poped up Hall sensor gimbals...... So i came back to taranis for the the features.... Now the X-Lite looked amazing!! Why do we need that huge thing with all those buttons (for FPV quads of all sorts) For a while we thought it won't have hall sensor gimbals, Then that it might not have a speaker. It has it all!!! Except a proper module bay!! So this R9M Lite which is only a hinted product in the Taranis X-Lite specs for now, I wonder what its going to be..... Probably less than the 1w of the R9M.... I hope it will be more than 100mw to give crossfire a proper fight.... I will probably won't be able to resist and get the X-Lite with the R9M Lite once its out. Only question now is do i already order the special promotion R9 mini for 10$ a piece haha |

What is the allowed mW for 2.4ghz? 915MHz generally has better range than 2.4ghz and better penetrability (AFAIK). Updated the OP, there is also a product page @HorusRC, no price or availability yer https://www.horusrc.com/en/frsky-r9m-lite-module.html |

I don't see it either, looks fixed at 100mw?

The question is, will the everyday average flyer feel it any slower than Crossfire, or even regular 2.4? I doubt it. But you should get a bit stronger link for penetration etc?.
I feel Crossfire is more hype than anything else, plus I'm not a huge TBS fan, personally myself I'd buy into the Frsky system for the slightly lower cost. |

But i do have close friends whom i trust who say there is a difference, One talented racer says he really feels it on the racegates power loops, i believe him. This is the best comparison video, it show a real differenc, i wonder if the whole new digital connection on the X-Lite would make a difference (The regular R9M is analog PPM/CPPM):

Sure once you get to the extremes like a full on racer power looping a gate then yeah that guy might feel a difference. Someone like me? Nope, all feels the same and doesn’t make me fly any better. Plus I’ve seen enough posts in the TBS lounge from folks still having failsafe issues, I’ll take the cheaper Frsky system. Plus their stuff seems in stock more than the competition.

“Add R9M mini handling for xlite, with firmware option for full size module.”
In OpenTx, there seems to be a 100mw option for EU (non jr size) r9m. https://github.com/opentx/opentx/blo...ses_arm.h#L225 |

Good find, KC! Interesting that R9M Lite user manual for LBT EU version states:
RF Power: 25mW https://www.frsky-rc.com/wp-content/...Lite%20LBT.pdf |

Its not out yet but i already wonder...
If it used the same chip as the Crossfire 100mw, can it be modded as well to 250mw (non eu of course) :

HorusRc has the R9M lite listed for $45.00.
Out of stock for now, as the product hasn’t been released yet. Maybe they will announce a pre-order soon. https://www.horusrc.com/en/frsky-r9m-lite-module.html |

The included antenna looks very nice and floppy. It will be possible to toss it in a bag without worrying (as much) about hurting your antenna. It does look like the module will hang down past the bay by 20.5mm . This could maybe help counter the weight of that long antenna? I hope my first batch pre-order doesn't come too long after my x-lite first batch.
