Hawker Tempest Mk V - chin scoop version
This is my new Tempest Mk V.
I got a little fancier with this one than the Mk II, and I installed the wing fairings, gear doors (static only), and retract conversion kit. The bomb drops were $6 at my local hobby shop. I couldn't resist. This plane was framed up last May in a hotel room in Toledo, while I was on a course for work. You model when you can! Ron |

Greg,
It is from my own kit. It spans 45.1, and is for either GL$& or 05 geared electric. An Astro 035 G (2.38:1) on 10 CP 1700's, no landing gear (or bombs) and 10X8 prop is a good combination. With the following cells, no gear, with wing fairings, here are some good estimates (based on my airframe weight, 60 g for 4 servos, 30 g for receiver, 30 g for ESC, 7.5 ounce for Astro 035 G). 10 cells, 1.8 lbs thrust, 225 watts (output) 1300 CP's 2.55 lbs, 16.0 oz/ sq ft. about 5 minutes duration 1700 CP's 2.7 lbs, 16.95 oz/sq ft. about 6.5 miuntes duration 2400 CP's 3.0 lbs, 18.9 oz/sq ft. about 9 minutes duration. My current E-Tempest Mk V is 10% smaller, with 21% less wing area. The airframe, oddly, is actually a little heavier. With it, the numbers are as follows Astro 035 , 10 x CP 1300, APC 9X8, 3 channel. 1.375 lbs thrust 2.7 lbs, 21 oz/sq foot, up to 5.5 minutes duration, 5 typical. I may be a bit conservative on my estimates for the new one. I took into acount the extra drag, but only a bit of the fact that you can fly a bit slower, due to the reduction in wing loading. Other motor combinations will work fine as well, provided you have over about 22 ounces static (for 1300's), and over 60- 65 MPH pitch speed. I'm using a buggy motor and a Master Airscrew gearbox in my MK II. Ron |

Kit review on Swedish Web Site
I followed one of the links on Ron's web site.
I couldn't believe how much Tempest stuff was on this page. There is even a review of the Ron Daniels Tempest Mk V. It is being added to as the builder goes along. It seems like he's just ready to paint it. Follow the link: Hawker Tempest Page |

Picflyer,
I love the Hawker Tempest Page web site. It's amazing how comprehensive this site is. I sat there a few weeks ago, and watched all of the little movies that he has of Tempests doing their thing. I especially like the one where the V1 is shot down and explodes. I don't think I could muster the guts to fly thorugh one of those fireballs! I'm glad Christer seems to like his kit so far, as well. Ted, I started a different link about the retracts a few days back. I really like them, so far. As for your 035 G, if you're looking to sell it, e-mail me. I've got a new plane that one would go quite nicely in..... Ron |
