Gulfstream II (Scratch build photo essay)

This slope forum and all the amazing PSS planes being shown here inspired me to try my own scratch build.

I went through 3-view after 3-view... nothing stood out.
When i saw racingodds G5 i knew that i should try to build an executive jet.

So i searched for some decent 3-views and played around with some ideas.
I decided to start out with foam as it was cheap and relatively easy to shape.

Here in South Africa we don't get a whole lot of EPP floating around... and if you could find some it would probably set you back quite a bit.

Well i'm not much of a waffler so i'm gonna let the pics do the talking.

Here are some specs:

Airfoil: RG-15 (12.652" Root 8.952% thickness)
Length: 1260 mm or 49.606 inches
Span: 1200 mm or 47.244 inches
Weight w/o covering: 1150 grams or 40.565 ounces

Wing cores are made per TFLG's "worlds cheapest foam cutter" method and are sheeted with 2mm balsa.
The leading edge is balsa.
Main construction material is EPS.

As an experiment i used silicon to glue the eps sheets together, it works very well but when sanding you will have to trim the excess. (Watch your fingers with that razor blade)

If there are any questions i will hazard an answer... i am by no means a guru when it comes to scratch building. This is my very first attempt.

Enjoy...

Gulfstream fuse in compact form

Was going to use the windrider bee as my wing but then decided against it.

Great job on the gulfstream. It sure looks good.

Where can I get one of those black baseball caps with the pilot on it (its in the picture showing your plane on your dining room table)? Did you get it locally or did you order it from somewhere online? How much did it cost?

Thanks,

Mitch

That looks great! I love those side strakes that hold on the jet nacelles. and that linkage at the back looks cool. Must have taken quite a bit of thought!
