Well started the build, seem to be missing the horizontal stab supports. Will call Tower tomorrow. Has anyone replaced the pull pull system with rods ? Got the wings done and tail feathers on. Taking my time with this one.

I didn't get the stab supports either, but have had 32 flights so far on mine with no signs of any issues.

Thanks on hold with Tower now Since I bought it almost a yr ago not sure if they will do anything about it. Since it will be flown scale by me I am sure they probably are not needed but, never hurts to inquire about it. Not a big deal to make some either.

Prop Size

Hi all,

I'm running for the Stinson now and would like to give it a try with only 6S perhaps to reduce the needed time for charging the accus. Problem: what Prop sizes do you use? Do you think a 21" is possible? That's what I would need to get reasonable thrust.

My planned set-up therfore:
I plan to go with Turnigy G160 and only 6S. With 6.200mAh I can go up to 100A and should have enough power for an estimated weight of ~7kgs

Thanks in advance, Jan

(soryy for my perhaps faulty english, I'm german...)

I am not an expert with electrics, but, I think your RPM will be really low, about 5400-5500? So you will need a hi pitch prop?

Maybe better if you go with 12S for that motor?

Good luck!

Hi Sam

I use this combination - G160 with 21"x16" Fiala woodprop on 6S - already in a Graupner Starlet 2400 with 6,8 kg. That works very well! The high pitch leads to an excellent efficiency of the prop.

So a tested and proven combination which might work as well for the Stinson - if the diameter is possible. So a hint if 21" would fit would be appreciated...

That sounds good then. 21" prop I think will be ok for the big Stinson. I fly a Phoenix PA-18, 90" wing span with the G160 on 7S with 17x10 and it flies ok but not to my liking, I like more speed and power so I may go up to 8 or 10S soon...

Let's know how it goes!
Cheers!

Got my parts from Tower, turns out I was missing the hardware for the elevator also. I was wondering about using rods instead of the pull pull system . I got the tail wheel hooked up with the cables but personally I think control rods would be better. Has anyone done that conversion on the Stinson ? Good idea /bad idea ?

Control rods, in my opinion, are better than cables if space allows it. Control is more positive and needs less adjustment than with cables.

yes, the 21" will work technically, I guess. Question still is if there is enough ground clearance to mount it! Is there anybody who has the Stinson already that could measure if this is possible?

Thx very much.

My friend has one in a box but it is stored way, can't measure his. I am almost certain a 21" will be OK, it is a big plane. Hope some one can measure!
