Smallest EDF?

Looking over the Viking kit I still haven't started, I noticed just how small the KP-44 fan units are, only 1 3/4 in. diameter! Even my 25" span Sonic Blast has a 2" or larger fan. Which got me to wondering, what's the smallest EDF out there?

Also, since one of the KP units turned out defective , what wing span/area would work well with a single fan? I'm thinking a HE 162 salamander would be fun.

GWS introduced a 3cm (1,18 inch) diameter edf. Not yet available, AFAIK.

There is a guy in the indoor forums with a 1" fan that makes about 2 oz's of thrust. He has a video of his birds flying too.

Angelo,

Remember that the KP-44 fan units - when fitted with supplied motors - are intended for use with four cell packs.
You can make a free-flight model of around 24" wingspan with one.

The fan will make slightly more than three ounces of static thrust - so your model needs to be light.

If you add radio you will need a seperate battery for your receiver. Extra weight...
Perhaps your fan has uprated motors ?

Keven.
