The Barb-2 with the new larger motor should take the win.

I think there was no gain with the 3500KV swap in the Volantex because the physical motor size stayed the same, so torque was actually reduced. It gained little to no advantage over stock.

Try a 3500-3700KV of the same diameter, but with a longer can/stator. This one would bolt right in with M3 screws (19mm hole spacing matches stock motor mount): https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2835mm-...4383.l4275.c10

Due to the slightly larger shaft, the stock coupler would need to be drilled out on one end from 3.0mm to 3.17mm (1/8th inch). Or drop in a new2.3mm to 3.17mm coupler like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-2-3-3-3-1...SZkzsXUVLl2xjg

You would also want to upgrade to a 50A-60A ESC. THEN you'd have a competitor to pursue.

Lot of good info there DOGGe Thanks! I gained 4mph by just putting the 3500kv in the Volantex. My best speed was 20-21mph with the stock motor in it. I'll look for the video and upload to YT. It was a dramatic difference between the two for me. I guess I could have had a bad motor though. As for the Barbwire 2 the fastest I've seen one go was 27mph on YouTube from a reviewer. Maybe I can somehow match his numbers....

24mph-25mph was the claim for the old Barb, so sounds about right. The XL was rated at 27mph stock.

Still great Kite flying weather here! But I did try my Volantex Vector out today and got 33mph from the logger with the upgraded motor and 30mm prop.

I'm REALLY liking this new motor and prop combo on the Vector SR-48! I remembered to check the coupler before this run...

Mark , I got a couple 32mm detonged and back-cut metal props for those hulls that you can try and get some more speed out of them .

Great reviews of popular boats which are easily accessable to many which keeps the hoby afloat(oh dear!) So neat and relatively easy(hopefully) mods too. Really enjoyed the clips. I would point out to newbies though that the purchase price of a ft012 or volantex is CONSIDERABLY less than the Proboat or Barbwire. Which does leave a bit more cash in you pocket when yougo for these tempting modifications.

How did you jump from 24mph to 33mph with the SR and 24 to 28mph with the Recoil? Was the GPS working correctly?

Ran the FTO12 today the first run of the year so far and got 31mph out of it with the 3 year old stock lipos , Mark what mah and c rating are those Gens-ace lipos , I need to get something better and newer for her and get a couple more mph out of it.

GPS is spot on accurate.
(SR) added a30mm prop and a little fine tuning (heating and bending) on the trim tabs and sanded the rudder a little.
Recoil stock battery 24mph...Gens Ace 28mph
