CC1 - Beaver Fever

There were 23 competitors for this 3 day event.
Friday was practice and measuring.
Saturday there were 10 seeding races (20 heats) before the Gold and Silver fleets were decided.
Sunday was more racing with Gary Boell leading the Gold fleet after 16 races, but Jerry Brower finished strong with a 2nd and a couple of bullets to claim top spot for the weekend.

Here are 4 videos I took of the action:

JWB - USA #4d2 is over early but still leads at the windward mark after going back to restart!
Beaver Fever 2018 seeding heat (7 min 54 sec)

Rob - CAN #51 and Gary USA #171 take the lead after the windward mark and match race downwind and back up to the finish line.
Beaver Fever 2018 seeding heat (5 min 30 sec)

Bill - USA#69 just makes it back to launch his boat after a "bio break" with 30 seconds on the clock. He then proceeds to complete the perfect start and win the heat with some great sailing.
Beaver Fever 2018 Silver Fleet (2 min 31 sec)

Wilson - CAN #87 heads away from the start line with 10 secs on the clock, then decides to weave his way through the fleet on a port start and actually makes it!
Bill - USA #69 pulls away from the fleet at the windward marks and finishes the heat as the remaining boats are just starting their downwind lap.
Some interesting action at the offset mark as well.

Coastal Cup #3 was a great success at Nigel's pond in Richmond, BC.
What a fantastic venue with perfect wind conditions.
Walking alongside your boat for 21 - 2 lap races certainly gave us a work out.
I think everyone had a good time.

Here are some cap cam videos taken in the afternoon.

Thanks to Nigel and Allan for running this event and to Barry for doing the score sheet.

CC#6 is in the bag. We had rain overnight to clear the smoke from the air.
Conditions started out as a drifter in the morning to B rig conditions just before lunch.
The flood tide was quite strong with the wind blowing in the same direction most of the day.
It was quite easy to miss-judge the layline to the windward mark and many boats got hung up getting pushed down onto the mark.
A few races after lunch everyone changed back up to their A-rigs for the remainder of the day.
This is truly a great location for sailing in the salt chuck.
Being able to look down onto the course and walk (sometimes run) along side your boat. It makes it quite easy to judge the distance between boats and the marks.

Here is a short cap-cam clip of some surfing action.

Winds were light with some races reduced to 1 lap and/or a downwind finish.

Congrats to Steve Toschi all the way from California for a first place finish.

Coastal Cup #8 RVYC

Coastal Cup #8 took place yesterday in beautiful sunny warm conditions with a light to moderate NW wind at Royal Victoria Yacht Club.
We had 2 sailors from the USA attend this regatta who clinched first and second place.
Gary Boell sailed Barry's purple V8 - CAN 46 to a convincing win. Congrats Gary!
Wilson was there with his head-cam, so I expect there will be some videos posted soon.
