rcFoamFighters FF-117V2 40" version

Hi All,

Paul at rcFoamFighters was generous enough to scale up his FF-117V2 26" ws to a 40" version for me. Thanks again Paul

I am slowly going to start this build. Everything should be the same as the smaller version so I will try not to bore everyone with the details. And hopefully Paul will give his two cents as I go along. The first pictures are just for a start. It's big, that's for sure.

Gear being used:

Motor: Scorpion S2-3026-890KV
Battery: Zippy type 2200 4 cell lipo
ESC: 60a
Prop: Will start with a 12X8.5

Thanks again to Paul at rcFoamFighters, if you are new to Paul's work, his website is

I had to add 9” to the length since the Depron I can get here is smaller in size. I am adding CF rods to the length and the wingspan as well. Unfortunately I had to use two extra sheets for the wingspan as well. But that shouldn’t be a problem.

Following and interesting...

Not sure on the KV and the need for a 12x prop? why not go a higher kv to hit a 10 inch max prop?

Brass,

After being in the hobby for so long I have a ton of parts, motors etc lying around. I have used this for a similar sized F-18 and it flew great. Secondly, the F-117’s max airspeed is only 536 knots. I’ll start with this prop and see how it flies, might prop it down a bit after. We will see.

Cut outs are happening. Because of the size, I have to use more than one shert for the parts. Not easy to get large sized depron sheets in Canada

Well I got quite a bit done. I played around with the depron for the angles and folds. Didn’t work out well. I ended up going to Michael’s and purchasing a few pieces of black foam board. I would have liked to use it for the main wing, but they only come in 28”x30” pieces.

Much better. I still ended up building the top in two pieces, because of the size. It looks better from a few feet away than up close, my hot glue gun skills are a little lacking .
The first picture is of the front glued in place and the second is the back pieces mocked up for placement. I think it’s looking good. Once everything is done, glued and sanded, I am going to paint it flat black.

F-117s always make interesting builds. Looks to be coming along nicely John.
If you didn't know, DCobra developed one way back in 2006 and brought it to our Vegas fly in 2007 as I remember. He has since has gotten out of the hobby but he left us with a long thread that might give you some insight if you haven't already read it.

Worked on wiring, some cosmetic issues, and got the motor box finished. I decided to add a small deflector on top to help keep the motor cool.

I got quite a bit done. Just glued the turtle deck on. Had to do it in two pieces because of the size. Once the epoxy has dried, I’ll get the tails on and next is the paint.

John,
I just checked yesterday and I was using a 11x8 APC prop.
Thought you would be interested in that.
