Cloth/fabric for soft top

Hi Guys

Someone here just might know:

I have recently bought a Gaz 69M (Russian jeep) and it needs a new softtop. Topping fabric is extremely expensive here in Europe and we mostly only get THE most expensive brand - not a problem on a Porsche with its small top but I need 17 running yards!!!.

I have searched and searched but nowhere on the net have I come across any company in the US that sells (retail) topping fabric by the yard. Only ready made tops. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

PS: In case you don't know what a Gaz 69 looks like here is a picture of one (not mine)

Try a google search on 'coach trimmers'. There's loads in the UK, but there must be some in mainland Europe too.

Hi Tim

I was specifically looking for a retailer in the US. Dollar is low at the moment and generally the prices asked here on mainland Europe are best described as obscene. I think this is so because the vendors mostly cater for an market where price is not an issue (cabrio owners). But for us poor Gaz owners it is very costly to buy from the cabrio part retailers.

I did find one site in the US that sell by the yard but they wont do intl credit card orders. The product they offered was USD 11 per yard - here the same brand sells for USD 50!! Thats a rip-off.

Thanks Lymon. Unfortunately Sunbrella is not suitable for toppings on cars. It is not fully waterproof AFAIK. However I would love to hear from anyone who has succesfully used it on cars. Maybe it works with some sort of treatment?

Here's a supplier of aftermarket tops. Ask them about your project, maybe they'd help

both of those links sell other fabrics as well... I've got Sunbrella on boats and an awning; while it may not be "waterproof" it doesn't leak and is very tough

Thanks Lymon. I am tempted to give it a try.
