Binding SPM4648 to Blade xmtr?

Trying to see if I can use an old controller with this new Bat 100. I plan to get set up with a good transmitter and goggles but would love to fly this thing line of sight for a bit.

The transmitter is a Spektrum 2.4GHz DSM2 that came with a dual prop Force helicopter. I have several of these from a few years back when we were flying those indoor helicopters. It has 5 channels so I am hopeful. The issue may be, no means to change modes.

I installed the receiver (SPM4648),
connected up to Betaflight,
installed the battery,
set my xmtr to bind.

The receiver light turned steady yellow as it should when bound.

In Betaflight when I go to the controller screen I see nothing changing.

For Serial Rx I selected UART 3, (no idea how one would determine which to use?)
Under settings - Receiver, I selected "Serial-based receiver..." and for Serial Receiver Provider I selected "SPEKTRUM2048"

All just guesses.

Mainly, should I have any hope of this working?
Any pointers on settings I am missing?

I would love to fly this thing even on this temporary controller. In the future it might be an option to use for guests.

Appreciate any help.

Lots of learning to do, just getting my feet wet.

So where did u connect the receiver to on the fc? Do you know what fc it has? Meantime it sounds like your settings are correct. I would try uart 1 and uart 2. And u can arm with the sticks so channel 5 could be ur mode switch

I just checked it has a minicube betaflight f3 fc. And the receiver is on uart 3. But for dsm2 you should select 1024 not 2048. And there is a jumper that has to be soldered to select either 5 or 3.3 to the receiver

Full Speed teeny 1S F3.

Soldered to the ground, signal, and 3 volt tab. It has both 3 volt and 5 volt.

Tried 1024 also, no go.

It binds, just doesn't talk.

My hope has been with the 5th channel I would be able to get it to function and have a cut off.

I am wondering if the receiver is getting power but the signal not getting to the board (bad solder? bad board?).

Is there something in betaflight that tells me if the signal is actually getting to the board?

Could it just simply be that the receiver is DSMX and the transmitter is DSMR?

I tried all 3 available UARTs, 1, 2, and 3.
I tried each UART on each Serial setting, 1024, and 2048.

I'm now suspicious of the flight board. Seems like everything else works in betaflight.

I suppose if I could hook up with a "Real" radio that may tell me another story.

Thanks for the input.

Trying to get airborne on a tight budget.

I guess I'll look for a used radio.

This learning curve is quite a bit of fun
I think I will like this fpv drone thing.

I generally avoid the easy route. As you can see, I bought a drone that would immediately need a component sodered on which is a skill I lack.

Stick with it man. It is an awesome hobby. It seems overwhelming at first, there is a lot to absorb. But u will get there. Do you have any other receivers to try?
