It was gusty yesterday while the storm front approached, grabbed the Conscendo Adv to have fun surfing in the winds.
I always use the supplied tape for the horizontal, works great if you ever have to remove it, cut the tape then use Scotch tape again.

Ok. Excited to be here at last. Got my CA yesterday. Has screws and locknuts holding prop blades on. Good. Put it together, no worries.
Bound it according to instructions for Safe Select. ESC makes all the right noises and control surfaces move twice to indicate SAFE on. My problem is trying to assign a switch for Safe Select. Followed the procedure to assign it to my Gear/Mix switch. DX7S trans Mode 2. As per instructions, sticks full bottom/inside, toggle switch 5 times (10 clicks), control surfaces should move but they don’t. Considered forgetting about SAFE, because I don’t use it on my other planes, but want to have it as a backup “because it’s there”! Any ideas? Thanks guys. |

Ok. A couple of questions.
I’ve got a couple of planes with AS3X, which I understand. I’ve got an old Delta Ray, with SAFE, which I don’t use. The manual on that was very explicit on what SAFE does. I keep SAFE off, but the AS3X keeps doing its thing. Fine. All good. I get it. So, what does SAFE do on this thing? The manual tells you how to turn it off and on, but not what it does, unless I’m missing something, which I often do. Also, with SAFE off is there AS3X still doing it’s thing? Thanks. |

AS3X only makes small automatic corrections for plane movement not commanded by radio -- IE wind gusts. Is always on. Nice to have.
When switched on, SAFE will bring the plane to level if you center the sticks. Good to have if the plane gets low and distant and you're not sure how to save it. Good to have if the plane flies through the sun and you lose contact for several seconds. It will emerge from the sun flying level and where you expect to find it. Good for relaxed launch, cruising and landing, but not necessary. This plane also flies well with a conventional non-stabilized receiver. SAFE-on also limits the climb, dive and bank angles keeping you from doing aerobatics. You'll want to switch it off if you want to do rolls, loops, etc. If you typically fly bank and yank, the angle limits will make for lazy turning. Adding substantial rudder command to bank and yank (coordinated turn) makes it responsive again. Same as your Delta Ray. I like it on this plane. Some people seem to think it limits their manliness. Whatever. Make that your call, not others. |

I play an "ALES" type game. Set my tx timer to 10 seconds and get as high as I can in that time and cut throttle. Then stay aloft unpowered for as long as possible. My tx has two timers so the second timer measures total time after throttle cut. My range is generally 3-6 minutes.
With only 10-second burns, I get tired and quit long before the battery does. |

I was recently flying my CA, and had some receiver problems and was all I could do to get it on the ground before going into a cyclone fence. I came in level but sat I down abruptly about 5' from the fence. It was like holding the plane by the tail and slapping the fuse onto a table top. I have a vertical crack on each side of fuselage where bottom rear corner of canopy meets fuselage. Does anyone have recommendations on type of glue to use? I have several types here and can get anything. My first thought was Foam-tac or BSI Foam-Cure but I've always put those on and pulled apart a couple times to get it really tacky and cure better. Kinda afraid to do that here as fuselage might break completely in half. Maybe that would be easier fix though. Any advice would be appreciated.

Any number of glues would work. For cracks I like to use ordinary Elmer's GlueAll white glue. It penetrates the cracks well without opening them up much. And just smooth out whatever sticks above the crack with your finger. It will dry virtually invisible. It's not the strongest glue out there, but it only has to be as strong as the foam.
For curing, I typically push straight pins into the foam on either side of the crack and pull the pins together with a rubber band. That will keep the crack closed until the glue cures. You can remove the pins and handle the plane in an hour or two, but give it overnite for full strength. |

Finally flew maiden this morning. Only had time for one (1300) battery. Wind maybe 8 knots. Flew 5 minutes motor time, will go with 5:30 tomoz. Stock setup with a bit of packing tape under the wingtips for protection on landing.
Was a bit nervous tossing it up the first time. Decided to launch and land with SAFE on. Landing in particular using SAFE is a doddle! I found I needed a fair bit of nose up trim to keep it flying on the slower side, which is how I want it for now. Zeroed the trim on the receiver by trimming the elevator mechanically. Worked good but I have also tried the trick of taping a small coin to the tail and will see how that goes tomorrow hopefully. I was surprised how you can get SAFE to about 60 degrees of bank, hard back on the elevator in a turn and it seems totally benign, unstallable? I will try and stall it with SAFE on tomorrow. This is the first plane I've had SAFE on that I find useful IMO. SAFE off it flies beautifully too. I have mixed 30% rudder with aileron on a switch. Will try 40% tomoz. What's the consensus on the elevator control horn? Manual says middle of three. Anybody using the outermost hole for more throw? How's that working for you? Bottom line - loving this plane and can't wait to get more stick time. |
