Sport Aerobatics from Force RC

Horizon Hobby released a new plane from Force RC yesterday called the Aire-Batix. It's a 1.4M sport aerobatic plane with a high wing design and great graphics on top. It's designed to be tough, powerful and fun. That starts with the assembly, and you can leave your glue in the bottle because the Aire-Batix bolts together quickly. The plane is made from EPO foam with hollow-core structures to keep it light and agile.

It takes 3S lipo batteries from 2200-2400mAh. The graphics look awesome on top, but it appears like the artists forgot all about the bottom as it's just plain white underneath. You can easily add your own stripes with paint or vinyl to give you contrasting colors on the bottom for help with visual orientation. Overall, this is looking like it will be a great addition to the Force RC line up. It's going to cost $150 for the PNP and it's due out in mid March just in time for Spring. Horizon is taking pre-orders right now.

Features:

  • Durable EPO Construction
  • Bolt-together Assembly
  • Aluminum Landing Gear
  • LEDs in the Wingtips
  • Aerobatic with Lots of Power
  • Just Add Your Radio System and Battery

Looks like it has a high fun to cost ratio. At $149 with a free battery and free shipping, that seems like a steal.

This looks to be the same plane as the "Max Thrust Riot" we've had in the UK for about 6 years:

Looks like Force us getting on the Valiant bandwagon. Not a bad idea actually.

Not really. The SuperEZ has the battery load from the top, as all electric models should, so there is a hatch in the top that runs up the windscreen to almost the front of the wing.

Never flown one myself, but the 2012 magazine review that I linked to was pretty positive and presumably the current "V2" has some small improvements.

Looks good, but is it really any better than the Valiant 1.3 that I already have?

Probably not, but I look forward to seeing what others have to say when these are out in flyer's hands here in the US.

Looks cosmetically like a Super EZ trainer to me too. However, I also note that there's quite a few planes around with a similar look. I am wondering what was the origin of that look?

Another example, maybe even more extreme than this (not just "looks like" but "almost a copy") is the GWS E-Starter/Ares Gamma 370/Volantex whatever. They are almost carbon copies of the E-Starter.

Not that this is a bad thing...

It seems to be a “generic “ airplane. It appears as though HH is trying to compete with HK and BG and other web only dealers.
It looks like a good strategy. It leaves the E-Flight line as a premium line of products and poised Firce R/C as the equal of the generic dealers.

The lack of bnf is very interesting. They don’t want people to think of these as E-Flight light. They want people to think of them as weak clones like you’ll get if you order from Bang Good or Hobby King

Thanks, I didn't know about the Robbe / Art Tech / Tech One versions ... it really is a generic model. Max-Thrust also do the 1.6m version:

I think it's based on the Wot-4, a UK design that's been around since the mid '70s. It's still kitted by the original designer Chris Foss ... and there are ARTF versions (both balsa and foamie) in various sizes made under licence by Ripmax.
