HOB .20 P-51 flies again!
I don't know if anyone remembers my posts
last year about my Mustang which flew against all odds on a geared 400. Well it crashed in March due to "accumulated errors". The plane hit the pavement perfectly perpendicular and destroyed the spinner, motor and gearbox while doing very little damage to the airframe. I rebuilt it with a speed 600 direct drive. For test flights I used a new 1500 6cell car pack. Takeoff runs were the same but once in the air top speed was better and the ability to loop from level flight was good. I was quite happy and flew it many times that day. Before I fly it again I'm going to build a 7 cell 2000 pack. Now that it flew well I addressed the problem of visibility. I (unfortunatly) covered the plane in chrome ultracote. Big mistake. It's the perfect camo for a model taking on the color of it's surroundings and reflecting the sun in your eyes as a bonus. I painted the nose red and put some invasion stripes on the wings then shot the whole thing with Lusterkote flat which made that chrome look like unpolished aluminum. It only took an hour to draw on some panel lines. |
