Chris, is there a photo of the award plaques you can share with us? It would be nice to see what the winners were presented with--like to know what we're 'competing' for .

Ask and ye shall receive. Two pics attached from the awards ceremony in December in Phoenix. Each plaque is genuine walnut and custom-printed with each pilot's name in full hi-resolution color on gold plates.

TWO CHI/LOU "Intro to 5J Events May 19 & 20"

HI guys

We initially planned on supporting the USA 5FJ Tour program but realized that F5J is a total unknown to about 90% the contest pilots East New Mexico. The Tour demands compliance to the USA version of FAI F5J (meaning pilots would have to invest in different ALT devices other than their ALES switches) etc.

So we decided to change our format to and "A Two Day Introduction to F5J" event to allow pilots around the Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and beyond to get some first hand experience with F5J. Like F3RES, the word F5J is spoken more often than events are flown. Unlike F3RES, F5J might actually be worth considering holding events instead of ALES. ALES is a social competition, where the goal is to fly our models with friends, and top piloting performance is recognized. F5J is a competition, that word alone has kept many rc "glider" guys from getting involved in flying events.

But the only way for pilots to decide for themselves is to try it, and that's what we are promoting for our event.

We will be holding two one day events in Louisville in combination with the boys from Chicago. These will be first class deals with field audio system, giant LED timer board and 1000' square field.

Each day will have winners and the usual lame plaques, BUT there will be an engraved Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat fresh from the factory for the Two Day Over All Point Champion.

There will be an award for the PIlot who completes a flight with landing from the lowest launch during the two days.

And possibly a Landing Champion award in the shape of a Kentucky Tobacco Barn (since they share a similar amount of area as the F5J landing circle) (just a though at this point). :-)

It will be challenging and fun.

The field is close to fast food, good food and great BBQ as well as lots of low cost motels.

More later
Gordy

Yes, wind noise is hard to filter out when you record with a mobile phone ... I'm just browsing for some half serious video gear and I hope future videos will be better in this and other regards.
The videos ar spectacular and informative. Thanks for putting I. The effort. My wife will actually watch them...she uses them as travel ideas. And she likes the part where they try and stay alive at 2 meters agl. Me too.

Change in Qualifying Events page, new FAI F5J altimeters page

We just updated the Qualifying Events page for the F5J USA Tour with the following:

1. Item #1 indicates each club can host up to 2 Tour events in a given season. We have added a spacing restriction that requires at least 30 days between events hosted by the same club/organization. A note on that page gives the reason.

2. The FAI-approved altimeters list link in #7 has been updated to point to our own FAI F5J Altimeters page. From now on we will track the FAI approvals and make an effort to keep our own page current. From year to year the FAI link and altimeter list changes so we hope this makes it easier for Tour contest announcements to just link to this page.

Thanks!
