Simple F-22 Raptor EDF

I am about to finish a simple Raptor foamie. It is based on the plan of Guy Perez . As the original was a propjet, it needed some modifications, because the EDF requires much thicker fuselage etc.

Data:
Wingspan: 50 cm (the biggest foam sheet I have...)
Weight: 350g
EDF: 60 mm, Alfa (the edf of the famous Alfa MIG15)
Motor: MPJet 25/25-26
Akku: Etec 1200HD or PolyQuest 1500 LiPo
Thrust: 240g

Nice subject It would look a bit better if you could get rid of that bend line "point" over the motor. Can you show us more pictures the the Ducting?

Sure. The intake side is just the rectangular bottom of the fuselage. As the top of the duct is above the sheet of the wing, I glued a foam cone to the triangle (see my 2nd picture in the first message).

The output duct is just a bended foam tube, with a little cone.
The edf unit is removable, fixed by 3 screws.
All of the electronics are in the tail side, easy to service them, no need for service holes in the fuselage.
The LiPo is in the nose, its weight (104g) is enough to set the proper balance. (the center of gravity according to the original plan).

Maiden

The maiden was today.

The weather was rather windy, almost storm. Just before sunset it improved a bit, so I went to the airport. Unfortunately I was alone, no other pilots take the risk...

Ok, at least easy to handlaunch it in the wind... Full throttle, start.

First impressions:
- I have to glue sometghing to the fuselage, because the trapezoid slips, not easy to hold the plane.
- up trim is necessary, about 3 degree, maybe better to move the center of gravity backwards?
- too sensitive to the aileron (surprised me, as no ailerons just elevons), after -60% expo it is perfect

After trimming, the 2. and 3. flight was very pleasant. Easy handlaunch, just a toss and it is flying. Very stable, even in the wind. Level flight at about 50% throttle. No bad habits. Best of all, it is just not stalling. If I pulled the elevator too hard and it lost speed, it stabilized at a high angle. Just dropped some altitude, but followed the stick. Pulling (or pushing?) out no problem with higher throttle. It makes the landing really easy - thottle down, glide near to the grass, pull step by step the elevator, finally it sits down at almost zero speed.

After sunset it was hard to follow the plane. It is small, rather strange shape, and all white. (I decided to check first if it is flying - if not, why waste my time with painting... ) So I didnt take the risk of trick-flying, just enjoyed the flight.

After the flights I recognised that the wind just not disturbed me at all, the plane was very stable, and the speed was well above the wind speed.

I have no real plans, however I collected together some drawings and construction photos to a pdf file. The plane is rather simple, hope it is enough for building a similar beast... The templates are in OpenOffice drawing format, I attach them too if you need them. Enjoy.
