H9 Carbon Cub 90”. Electric?

Going to build Carbon Cub. Would like to install Rimfire 120. Anyone done this? Advice?

A clubmate has the Carbon Cub with the H9 recommended Eflite Power 60B, 470 rpm/V, which is very similar in weight and Kv to the Rimfire 120. Running 16x10 on 6s 5000 it has lots of reserve power - performs really nicely. So the R120 will be a good solution.

Only downside is shortish flight times on the 6s 5000mAh , but that is easily solved by just adding a second pack in parallel - no balcony or access issues to do so.

The only problem with doubling the pack is that you also double the weight and make the model less forgiving.

6S means motor is running on 24V and will turn close to 11,000 RPM.
with a x10" prop wash will be 84.5 MPH or thereabouts.
Little wonder flight times aren't long!
Just how heavy is the built model likely to be?

15x8 wooden prop would probably be a good median that would win back some of the lacking flight time.
Save the second pack for a second flight.

But it's always worth making every attempt to build the airframe as light as possible and power it accordingly. That way you get a much nicer flying model.
Have fun building!

Most Cubs of this size, should easily handle the extra weight. I doubt that added weight would be an issue, here.

Yeah
Back in the late 1990's, I built a 1/4 scale Cub from a kit. Never saw so many pieces in my life. Wingspan was some 120 inches, it flew with a brush type Astroflight geared 90 motor with a home made gear box. It turned a 20X10 prop at some 5000 RPM, pulling around 800 Watts. The model flew with 38 RC2400 NiCad cells that weighed a ton and a half.

Take off runs were around 50 feet, it flew like a Cub. It would do loops and rolls, just like the full scale Cub. You had to dive first to loop it. Now days, I've got a 4500 Watt brushless setup in my giant PeakRC Corvus where this motor and battery system weighs less than that Astroflight motor and battery pack. And, both have about the same flying time.

I'm flying mine on 18x8 wooden prop, 8s, 80/90 amp ESC, two 5500 mAh 4s in series.

What flight times are you guys getting on your Cub? and what style of flying?
MY friend just got this ARF and we like to know.

I fly my Phoenix Models 90" Super cub on 7S, 5000 Mah, 295KV and I get about 5-6 min of normal flying, a few touch and goes but not much full throttle flying. Land with about 36-40% left, 3.8-3.87V per cell....FYI...

My buddy built this with a Scorpion 4025-440kv. This motor is very similar performance to the recommended eFlight Power 60 (actually a bit more powerful) , but is very disappointed in the performance.. We’re looking for something with more power.
