Hello... any tips for a newbie pilot and a slow stick owner?

Hey guys... im snowball... just signed up at RCGroups

I want to buy a slow stick, and i currently own a sky scooter. Ive only flown the sky scooter for about 30 min. Any tips for me (piloting or modifications to either plane) ?

dont use the included tape on the le to hold the spars, and use the screws for the tail. other than that, launch it level with the ground and have fun. its pretty easy to fly if you set it up like the manual tells you. oh, and dont be shocked if there is any breaze at all and your SS stops in the air

By the slope glider, the only thing it doesn't come with is the motor and gear box, buy a 350C motor gear box in a 6.6 to 1, run a 1180 prop, it flys a lot better than stock, buy at least 6 props, being new you will need them

It works out about 3 dollars more buying them seperate but well worth it
Balance it by putting to marks under the wing 4 1/8 inchs, it will be just about right, nose pointing down about 1 to 2 inchs to fly right
I buy these micro nine servos, we have about 40 of them in 20 planes and haven't had one of them fail yet, good price on them, I bout a gear kit for them about 8 months ago and its setting in a drawer
link wont work but they are under servos on site, they are 12.95 I think

Ah, just fly it. That's the beauty of a Slow Stick. You can walk next to it and practically adjust it in flight. I'll be flying mine, at 6,000 ft, in a few minutes. I like to soar above the ridges here in the Rockies.

Thanks guys...
im thinking about steve's suggestion.. i hear that the SS motors dont last long sometimes... so im thinking of getting a great planes motor... no decision yet, however. I can only buy off of (parents... grrr..), so looks like ill be waiting til december for the plane. On the bright side, my Bday is in december, and so is christmas

Hi, I'm new, too. The Slow Stick is what I taught myself to fly on. I use a 1500 mah 2s Kokam lipo. It's light and I can get about 45 min. of flying time on a charge.

GWS motors are okay with me. Only blew one so far, and I've gone through 3 SS's. The gearbox is weak. Fill the triangular holes with epoxy.

The gws and GP motor are the same. They are both made by mabuchi. What i dont know is wether the GP motor is the GWS equivalent of the 300 or 350.
I hope its the 350, as i have one on order at the LHS! (the 370T)
Ive also ordered a 1/18 scale car motor to experiment with. Its the same size as the 300-class, replaceable brushes and a hotter wind. Several brands available, some even have bearings. $22-$45 depending. Hopefully it'll give my Formosa a little kick in the pants...
