Park flyer plastics . Continental 4 cylinder dummy engine

After owning a 1/6 scale piper grasshopper for a while I have decided to do some scale work on it .

The park flyer plastics dummy 4 cylinder is a very close match for size on the Maxford grasshopper
I am planning on opening up the stock cowl to expose the dummy motor

The 4 cylinder has just enough space for my custom motor mount and my eflite power 25 (1000kv)inside .

Removing the cylinder parts

Making small circles adding pressure to the sides on worn 70grit glass paper .
The formed cylinders came away nicely .
I need to clean with 1000grit and separate the pairs

Seperating the parts

I used a snap knife to split the cylinder pairs .
Cylinders are numbered to keep in there pairs

Crank cases were seperated by using the snap knife to score eventually cutting

Joining the crank cases

I want to enhance the build using screws ..I would like nuts and bolts ..but I can't find any small enough

I used some small plinths of ply to sit flush inside the cases between the moulded bolt points ..
I cut down some small screws and drilled the casing bolt mouldings and joined the two case halves .

At the moment its mocked up ..I will remove for painting and re place the screws to keep them silver so they stand out against the painted casings

Joining the cylinder halves

The cylinder halves were kept in there numbered pairs

The top section of moulding was removed with a snap knife and then the edges were cleaned by making circles on 1000grit paper until the two halves of each pair matched .

I used revell poly cement and applied a small line of bond on to a a scrap piece of plastic and then ran the cylinder half joining sides through the cement .. matched up and held in place with tamiya fine line mask

There are a few join lines that need a slight clean

Cleanimg the cylinder joins

Using a fine file with a sharp strait edge I rerun it over the top of the joins flat then used the edge to clean between the air cooling plates

All the join lines now match up quite nicely

Remember, on Continental engines, the pushrods and tubes are below the cylinders. Lycomings are above. Just a heads-up.

Cheers Larry .. I have taken a little break from this project whilst I deal with a few others ..
Next task is to add a dizzy and a few other ancillary parts
Im also going to make the air filter operational leading into the underside to help keep the motor cool ..it doesn't do to much hard work ..but just to be sure there's no overheating

Then I can fit it to the model and start on the cowl mods .. I need to separate the cowl into inspection panels and hinge..
Regards
