FrSky X12S with OpenTX. No fancy Android sadly BUT the best free mixer system ever. Especially the delay option in the mixers is very valuable to me. Custom switches based on telemetry data is what i would miss also.

So no sideloading (manual install of APK's not via the play store). That seriously limits development of iX12-specific apps.

Andy, i get that a USB port for connecting FC's is a nice thing, but cables are old. With FrSky's system we change settings in the FC wirelessly. That should be possible with Spektrum also to be compatitive. |

Either way, I'm likely to buy one in the spring. I really do need a new DSMX TX, if only because I'm the TX programming guy at my glider club. |

This is certainly an interesting development for Spektrum. There are definitely some cool features in this transmitter.
Here's the big question in my mind - does the Android system actually fly the aircraft, or is there a more direct link between the sticks/switches and the RF module? Being Android-based certainly opens up a lot of possibilities for future expansion and applications, but I'm concerned that an OS that's designed to do dozens of other things - and is meant to, with the Google Play store open and already discussion about streaming music/audio through the TX - can really be relied upon to control the aircraft without hesitation every 11 or 22 milliseconds. We all know how you can download one bad app on your phone, and suddenly your phone is slow as can be and kills the battery in no time. First and foremost, the transmitter has to control the aircraft. As long as that's accomplished, everything else is icing on the cake. |

"It's a standard Android interface. The only physical button that connects to Android is the power button, and even that is done indirectly. The interface is purely event-driven, so events such as switch changes are reported to Android by our service, but the app is the consumer. I don't know if they will be making available those events on the service or not. It wouldn't surprise me." |
