Surprised that the sub didn't have a crash buoy like US subs do.

Looking like a "Kursk" situation except the Argentinian Navy doesn't even have a clue where the boat is.
Gods help them.

Off the southeast coast of S.A., going into the summer months. Warm on surface, but rough weather and seas presently.

German-built sub.

Argentina: Missing navy sub tried contacting bases

The crew of a missing Argentine military submarine tried contacting naval bases seven times, Argentina's Defense Ministry said.

The calls were made on Saturday to different bases between 10:52 a.m. and 3:42 p.m. and ranged from four to 36 seconds long, the ministry said in a statement to CNN en Espaņol. No communication connection was made.

The navy said the military is working with a US-based company that specializes in satellite communication to determine the location of the submarine, which has been missing for more than three days.

But there's also a huge difference.
Putin did not want help from foreign countries and rather let Russian sailors die trying to save face.
Whereas in this case a former enemy is helping Argentinia.

According to the arg military, they suspect a power failure and that the sub is not submerged. Last reported contact was from the straight of San Jorge.
Water depth is 350 meter and the sub was tested for 300 meter.
Weather is very bad with 6 meter waves.

If the sub is on the surface and not taking on water, then there is a very good chance they will survive, regardless of weather.

Shouldn't a sub this size have quite some emergency equipment on board, like a radio with extra batteries, an emergency locator, or a satellite phone (wired in a way that nobody needs to get outside to use it)?

Two not very trained women with their dogs getting lost on a sailing trip is one thing, but a sub in the 21st century? You can fit your dog a collar that tells you where exactly it is...
