Expo on Throttle??
I have never used expo on my throttle on any of my 3D planes however my new 52" Slick from EF has so much power I find it hard to have to have the throttle control I have on other planes. However after a few flights I'm sure I will get used to it.
Do most of you use expo on throttle? Just want to hear peoples opinion's. Cheers! |

I set all of my 3D planes up so that they hover at half throttle. Makes the power feel the same on all of my planes below half throttle. Above half throttle I'm usually doing something high speed that doesn't require the precision that I need when doing rolling harriers and stuff below half.

Same with me , I set a throttle curve on all my 3D planes to get more precision around the harrier/hover spot and to get the same stick feeling for all my planes . The curve start and finish abruptly with an almost plateau around the middle. The height and angle of the plateau differ according to the power of the plane.

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to set up throttle curve for my slick. What are everyone's recommended settings if I want to have a little less immediate power and as the I raise the throttle it evens out. Cheers!

It's really personal opinion. I try to set up all of my giants so that they have as much of a linear throttle movement as possible without any expo, or a very small curve at the most. I'll play with servo arm sizes too until I find the sweet spot. Electrics I really won't touch the expo settings ever, if the throttle is too sensitive then I'll change to a lower pitch propeller to help smooth out the midrange, or go to a larger diameter with lower pitch (whichever works better).

Some ESCs don't have a linear throttle curve. For example Castle uses a curve that puts most of the power in the last 1/3 of stick movement. I think they call it their "sport curve". I asked why and their response was that they wanted people coming from gas/glow engines to feel more at home. So I use a curve to correct the built in curve and make response more linear.
I find by setting all of my airframes up so that they hover at half throttle they all feel like they have the same power to weight despite being wildly different. I've helped a few flyers that claim that their plane needs more power by just setting up a curve for them. Spread the power out and move it lower in the stick travel and all of a sudden they are happy with their setup. the current trend in electrics seems to be excessively overpowering them. I wonder how many of these people would be just as happy with a more tradition power loading and a throttle curve? |
