6" floss2, runcam split2, hypetrain freestyle

I'm building a lightweight freestyle quad with the following components:

Hyperlight floss 2, 6 inch frame
https://www.getfpv.com/hyperlite-flo...ing-frame.html

Great frame, but I don't like the antenna mount on the bottom. I have a right angle SMA pigtail on the way.

RR Hypetrain motors
https://www.getfpv.com/rotor-riot-hy...0kv-motor.html

Sexy motors but why are motor wires always too short?

Runcam split 2
https://www.getfpv.com/runcam-split-...pv-camera.html

Custom 3d printed mount. Camera angle is 25 degrees. Camera is mounted forward to allow the right angle micro USB plug to fit the FC.

Lumenier alpha AIO FC

Why is the USB port in the front???

FrSky XM+ RX

TBS unify pro V3

Here's a pic of the right angle USB cable plugged in to the FC.

Nice man! If you ever build one for racing, check out the Mayday pod my friend designed. It's bada$$

Nice build.

Can you not just mount the fc sideways then change the orientation in the software?

Yeah I thought about that but I didn't want the 'tail' of the FC where the battery leads connect hanging off the side. This frame doesn't offer much for camera protection anyway, so moving the camera forward to allow for the USB cable was the best choice.

I googled it, looks great!

I'm going to print these TPU feet to be mounted under the motors. Hopefully they're not too heavy.

The TPU feet turned out great! I have longer aluminum screws coming.

I desoldered the RF connector on the unify and soldered the coax of the right angle SMA pigtail directly.

I wanted to use the onboard 5V supply for the runcam split and the VTX but the 5V rail was pretty noisy, particularly when the motors are spinning. I used a pololu 5V 2.5A regulator instead. This regulator switches at a much higher frequency (50mV noise @ 1MHz) and the motors don't affect it at all. There isn't a vbat pad I could find on top of the FC so I soldered to the current shunt underneath. I also added a drop of epoxy to the micro USB plug on the FC to keep it from breaking off. The VTX will be fixed to the bottom of the top plate whick will act as a bit of a heatsink. I'm thinking of designing a TPU holder for the XT60 hanging off the back.

TPU battery lead strain relief and antenna mount works well.

I am updating my Floss 2 6" build right now. Making it into more of an extended range quad since I've bought a Crossfire Micro setup. Now I'm just trying to fit everything neatly. I think I may end up moving to a different frame, but I really like the Floss 2.

Is this the Runcam Split mount? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2416273

I haven't tried printing TPU yet (had the printer just 2 weeks), but have the mods together to give it a try (it's a bowden extruder CR-10 so I'm expecting another learning curve).

I keep looking at AiO FC/ESC but the few out there seem to be not quite what I need. Mostly because of what I'm going to put on this thing. So for now I'll get it flying with what I've got and by Spring, maybe there will be more choices.

Floss 2 6"
DYS F4 'poker face' FC
DYS XSD30A blheli s ESC's (about 2X the arm width..)
Runcam Split 2 (needs a UART)
Micro Crossfire RX (needs a UART for crsf, telemetry)
Ublock GPS 18x18mm (needs a UART)
TBS Unify Pro 5V
F80 2200kv (bought them a while ago on a whim, they are heavy though. I can swap them out later. I have some Armattan OOmph Velvets on another quad, that might be more appropriate, but the oomphs sound and feel like junkers next to the F80...).

So I need 3 UART's, and enough 5v juice. 2A should be enough though. Thought about using a pololu BEC but there's enough stuff in there already.

I haven't tried the Split 2 yet but the few reviews say it's noisey on vbat and even when fed 5v unless through the USB but I'm not doing that unless I have to.

I want to try and keep it with a top battery. I'm going to try and put the GPS heat shrinked to the battery strap.

I also just got some 5.5x4.3 props to try. With 6", I"m limited to about 1500 batteries otherwise they hang over the props and hit when the props flex under power.

The split mount I made has the camera further forward with taller posts, but is otherwise similar.

My 3d printer is direct drive which is better for flexible filaments. I turn retraction off and print at 50mm/sec. The prints are a little stringy but functional. I print at 220C with a bed temp of 60C.

I'll be powering my split through the USB port with 5V due to the noise issue.

I'll be interested in seeing your floss GPS build, particularly how heavy it is.

Before I tore it apart to add the new bits (Crossfire, Split, GPS) it weighed 349g with everything but battery (F80, 6040x2 props, Triumph, Micro Swift).

The F80's are 42g each so there's at least -10g each there (the Oomph velvets I have are 29g). The GPS is really small and light, haven't weighed it yet. If I can find an AiO like the Asgard to work (BEC and UARTS), plus lighter motors than the F80 (pretty much anything), then it should be right at 300g. (That's figured by taking what I know my current rig weighs, then add/subtract the reported weights of various components....fwiw).

In Ohio the weather is crummy so I might not even fly this until Spring. I'm printing new prop guards tonight for my 2" to fly around in our warehouse at lunch and weekends at work. And I just got my Floss Tooth Fairy 3" frame, so trying to decide what to put in that one now too (14xx motor mounts, probably wait until I can get an Asgard like 20x20 board but really want BF OSD and a current sensor just because).
