Brittish island class offshore fisheries cutter

Brittish island class cutter. 1/48 scale 50x9. Partially completed with steering servo. Brass prop ,shaft installed. Some fittings. Brass railings and piano wire included. Built on the fiberglass dynamic sea-going tug hull. Was a great running ship with a very stable displacement hull. Could also be built into the Steve Irwin whale wars ship. Has great interior access.

I am curious as to what your plans were to finish this ship. I am not an experienced boat builder. What motor / ESC did you plan to use? I spent sometime looking at British Island class cutters. Most of the images are of USGG models, not the earlier British made ones. Clearly yours does not look to be based upon USCG... Not that I am looking for an award winning replica, beyond my skill level. But if I can pick up where you left off, I might get a good looking ship.

Offshore fisheries protection vessel

This model is the brittish island class used I believe in the1970s-1980s to patrol the North Atlantic during the cod fisheries war with Iceland. One of these vessels was sold to green peace and became the Steve Irwin. Below are some photos to show what the real ship looked like and what I intended to finish it as.

A geared 12 volt motor say 3:1 gear ratio would work well. A 7amp hour 12 volt battery and any compatible esc.should work well with this model. This model has about a 16 lb displacement. So it is a vary solid stable running ship. I did run it a few times and liked the way it handled. Tom

I am still looking at the boat real hard, like what I see…
Little trouble selecting a motor. I haven’t found a 12V with a 3:1 gear ratio. However, Harbor Motors has something close.

Under the “500 Geared Motors” they have two good possibilities. The MFA16 has a 2:51 gear ratio, different rpm output based upon voltage. The MFA7 has a similar rpm output at 12V when compared to the MFA16 at 6V. That motor is 6:1. Any idea what rpm range you had? Can you make a recommendation here?
When you ran the boat, did you add additional ballast?

3:1 Mack drives would work. I had tried a 12 volt Pittman 3600 motor and that was direct drive at about 3600 rpms and it worked great. These motors are hard to come by now. A dumas 12v geared would work.
